thyrogen injections

I'm going next week for my first "re-scan" since having my oblagion treatments etc.

Has anyone had the thyrogen injections? If so are there side effects from them?

I'll have the thyrogen injections Mon & Tues then on Wed I take the tracer pill & go back later Wed for uptake. Then on Thur I have another uptake & my scan.

Thanks for any help.

" I have and it hurts like a mother...two shots in your beehind you will scream. I had to have a towel in my mouth. I don't plan on having any scan done with Radiation (Tracer) ever again. You have probably been exposed to a life time of Rad. I am only answering your question. As, far as side effects I don't recall any perticulars that stood out. "

" Thanks for your response. Any news is better than none at all. I'm pretty use to shots that hurt because I have migraines VERY often & when I can't get out of the cycle I end up going & getting 2 shots (Nubaine/Phenergan) & they burn like crazy. Hopefully this thyrogen isn't any worse though!

Thanks again! "

" Hi, I had thyrogen injections in April of this year with a re-scan at the end of that week. I did not notice side effects from the shots and truthfully, they did not hurt any more than any other shor or blood work. Maybe I was more concerned and preoccupied with the results than the shot but I didn't have any problems with pain when getting the shots. My biggest problem was that the thyrogen raises the TSH level so that you don't have the blood work done with the suppression from the synthroid and unfortunately, my blood work showed that I still have thyroglobulin in my blood so I will have to have more bloodwork done in a couple months to see if it has elevated any more. I am hoping that it doesn't raise to the level of a true recurrence. I really don't want surgery and/or RAI again. I have been trying not to worry but I can't help it. "

" Roselady: Thanks for your help. I actually went today & had my 1st shot & it was nothing at all. Those Phenergan/Nubaine shots burn WAY more. I'm like you about not wanting to have the RAI again. I just keep saying my prayers & have faith that it's all going to be ok. "

" I had the thyrogen shots in Feb 08. I did fine with the first one. The second shot did not leave me feeling well. I was extrmely nauseated, I was bloated, I felt sick all over. I am not your regular response kinda gal..I had many many odd side-effects from my Thyrogen and RAI.
I hope you dont have the same reaction...My thoughts and prayers for a super speedy recovery! "

" I had thyrogen shots for my second scan and I was so grateful that I didn't have to come off of my meds that they could have cut my leg off. The worst part was the LID. The shots do hurt a little, but ifyou have a good nurse, she'll pinch up the skin and then immediately after the injection massage the area a little. That helps keep the medication in the muscle and it won't hurt as bad. Good luck to you. Here's hoping for a clean scan! "

" Well I've finished now. The second injection did leave me feeling pretty nausious for a few days. I also had a severe headache. But I also have chronic daily headaches & migraines so I'm sure it just triggered one. The radiologist said everything looked good to her but I should hear from my Dr Monday. Thanks to all of you for your help & support. "
