Levothyroxin vs. Synthroid, cont.

I see there was an earlier post about the the differences of these two options. I was switched to Levothryoxin from Synthroid about 6 months ago after many years on Synthroid and my dosage was also cut down from 1.37mc to 1.25. My doctor says that lowering it is necessary to combat the reduction of calcium uptake that happens as we age.

I'm not feeling quite myself...more tired, sleeping more and gaining weight. I also think I've lost some hair. This is so complicated because I'm also going through some peri-menuposal changes so I'm not sure what is causing what.

I'm concerned that my switch in drugs may be the problem and/or the lowering of my dosage (altho the endo says my tsh is good). I'm forgetful and have a hard time concentrating. Anyone out there going through the same thing? any info on switching brands/dosage?

Thanks!

" I am new to levoxyl so I can't help you but I have read that some people do better with little bit of cytomel (t3) added to their t4 meds. It may be something you could ask your doc about. I have been 17 days on levoxyl and 4 days without cytomel and I don't feel that well right now. :( "

" Hi, I am only 2 weeks after the surgery, I am taking the one Levothyroxine 100MG a day, It makes me shaky, and moody at times.

I see my Endo on the 19th to discuss further treatments, and regulate my pill, so we will see.

Good luck, Robbin "

" Hey. I switched from cytomel to levothyroxine as well... for me cytomel didnt work so well so thats why I switched. Most people I know do well with levothyroxine. I had some issues for a really long time when I switched. I was tired, and had a loss of energy (the typical stuff) and I just kept uping my dosage til something worked within four months I went from 100MCG's to 150. and thats worked. it might be the meds though i'm not sure. try uping your dosage and see if that helps, it might not work right away, but just wait a few weeks and you should feel better "

" Robbin here, I am doing much better on the Syntroid, no more shacking, but headaches are a matter.

In all honestly I don't know which one is better, You give and take, I guess. Sorry I didn't have an answer for you. I wish my best.
