TOS caused by cervical rib

I just found out that I have a cervical rib (extra rib in top of chest) on my right side that is causing my TOS. It compresses nerves and veins that are going to my right arm and hand. I have been to a Orthopedic Surgeon and he said that because it is a bone that is the issue, physical therapy would not help. He told me he would refer me to a Cardiothrorasic Surgeon and surgery would be the only option. In the surgery the cervical rib would be removed. However, he later found out that no one in this area (Tulsa, Oklahoma) does that surgery.

Does anyone else know anything about this and does it sound right that surgery is the only answer?

" I was finally diagnosed with TOS (it's only been 9 years of 'oh let us try PT)...I finally got fed up and told my doctor I wanted a referal ...I'm seeing Dr. Freischlag at John's Hopkins. It's a 3 hours drive for us, but she is awesome. TOS is her speciality. I know that is a long way from Tulsa, but if you can get there it is the place to go.

I've met with and am scheduled for Scalene injections first to make sure that the surgery would be sucessful, but at the point the long run is to have the first rib removed on both sides.

Good Luck "
