Hi all,
I have a horrible feeling on the right side of my head which is constant and extremely irritating (but not painful) i also have a ringing in my ear along with constant cracking also if i open my mouth it clicks after a certain point. I thought it could be something worse and had an mri scan and have now been advised to see a dentist but was hoping for some advise in the meantime. Also do people who have it find that it makes u feel to bad to concentrate on simple daily things along with motivation becoming impossible? (bearing in mind i am currently under no treatment) Any advise would be appreciated/ Thanks Posted on 09/11/07, 12:09 pm |

Sure sounds like you have all the symptoms I have with diagnosed TMJ. Go to a dentist who specializes in TMJ and bite splints. Also physical therapy and acupuncture have helped a lot.
Yes the pain from it can make doing simple things overwhelming. Contact me if you need more advice. I would like to help if possible.

Forgot to tell you about ice massage. You can use an ice cube or freeze water in a small smooth bottomed container. Massage the areas that hurt on the side of your head with it. I usually do all the areas around my ear. Use pressure with the ice it helps to relax the muscles and the ice helps to reduce swelling. I use it several times a day. Good luck.

Those of similar symptoms I had and still have along with many others. Each and every day has been a major struggle since it started. The only advice I can give is get it treated early and often. Get more than one opinion and don't be content with just one answer. I hate to say it but the symptoms might get worse before better. If u want to talk just im me on here. I'm Hope30. I hope I could help you some.

TMJ/TMD is lifetime condition. Sometimes the condition gets better, sometimes gets worse once you stop treating for good. My mouth got shut down for 4 months now. Since when I couldn't open my mouth fully, I didn't expect it lasts this long. But I'm doing exactly same things Jcbmom doing and my opening range is getting wider and wider. But Dr says, there is always chances for me to have mouth shut down again for the future so I have to take care of my TMJ everyday, 24/7. like religiously. Spcialized splint is really important!! It makes and helps your jaw joint in rest position all the time. Don't get cheap one. Mine costed $1500 but it's well worth. Also, physical therapy is really important too. Do jaw excersice whenever you have a chance, if you don't treat TMJ right and right away, we all know it's going to be really worse. Good luck with you.
