pain/spasm in temple area

Does anyone else suffer from pain mainly in the temple area? Sometimes its really bad. I know I am a clencher- and my stupid insurance won't pay for a bite splint (over $800.00). I also just ran out of visits to my PT who was doing great work on my neck and back of my scalp.
These "spasms" in my temples happen mainly at night. I try to lay down and relax at night and I feel like someone is banging nails into my temples- I try to relax, but its crazy. Heat does help- and so do muscle relaxers (hate to take those all the time)-
Has anyone found a long term solution.
My oral surgeon says I need the bite splint, but its crazy money. I have spent so much already trying to feel better:(

" Hi,
Why don't you make sure that you go to one of the tmj doctors that your insurance covers they must have some. Call memberservices and ask or ask who is on their list of covered dentists.
Good luck!!! "

" Hi,
There is soemthing I forgot to tell you. If you go to a sporting goods store, look for the lower mouth guards they cost around $2.00. I wento to UCDavis Medical center in California and they suggested this, it does work but you should still get an mri of your jaw joint. What you do is get the child one if you have a small mouth or the adult one if your have a larger mouth. You boil it in water, put it in your lower jaw area while pliable and suck the water out and get it to feel good in your lower jaw, then you put it in cold water to set it. You may have to trim some off..Good luck this is worth a try.... "

" Oh my oral surgeon is WONDERFUL- yes he is covered by my insurance. The bite splint however is not- I do not have "oral devices" of any kind on my plan. But I am still fighting it.
grr...this gets to be so frustrating! "

Is there anything non-surgical to do for the headaches? I wear a splint 24-7, but nothing seems to help.
