Im looking to maybe start a support group in CT for people with TMJ.Ive had 17 surgeries on my left joint. In 1991 I had the disc sewn in,horrible surgery, did not work.Several Arthroscopy's,tried PT,every prescription pain killer,Nsaid and several anti depressant drugs.
2003 they removed my disc. The joint had totally calcified.A Dr.that assisited in the surgery said I had the worst joint he had ever seen.
My last year's MRI showed "sever degenerative Arthritis and major bone loss form all the steroid injections.I wear a splint to sleep. The pain is now so bad I had to quit my job.
Ive learned the hard way,the more surgerie's I believe cause alot more problems than help.We are still guinea pigs when it comes to this disease.

" "We are still guinea pigs when it comes to this disease" That is a bold statement you made there, but I totally agree with you. I suffer from TMJ as well, but I cannot begin to Imagen what it feels like to suffer from this horrible disease for 20 years, my heart goes out to you. The doctors and dentists I have seen shrug my pain off, here take some paracetamol, my family are supportive but just do not understand how painful and life destroying this disease really is, sometimes I feel like they think I am over reacting. Not to mention friends who have never even heard of TMJ!
Anyway you are not alone, and I am thinking of you. "

" yeah, im only on a year and a half, but this crap doesnt seem to get better, and doctors are perfectly happy to take huge sums of money for futile attempts at alleviating pain they know they cant fix. "
