TMJ and Tinnitus

I posted this on the Tinnitus community as well but wanted to post it here as well
1) Non-pulsatile tinnitus is commonly caused by temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction
2) Interestingly, it has also been associated with whiplash injuries and other cervical-spinal disorders
3) Tinnitus may improve when patients respond favorably to treatment for symptoms of TMJ dysfunction and craniocervical disease.
4) The exact mechanism for the generation of tinnitus from either the TMJ or the cervical spine is not known, but may involve disinhibition of the dorsal cochlear nucleus.

" After 3 months of searching, this is exactly what I think is happening to me. I was in a car accident 8 months ago with a severe whiplash injury. I was being treated in massage therapy and physiotherapy when 5 months into treatment my ear filled and started to ring. My hearing is greatly impaired and I have a constant hissing, buzzing, ringing at all times 24/7. It has definately improved during the last 3 months as we have struggled to find the path to my healing. I am now in conversation with a physiotherapist who specializes in TMD and am considering travel for treatment. Is there anyone who has suffered such an injury as mine and have ended up with TMD/TMJ with tinnitus and have been able to find healing? "
