" same here, i have trouble speeching on the phone, i absolutely hate it cuz they can't see that you are struggling and often try to rush you. Its alot easier for me to talk in person. But you should really try and face it head on, thats what i need to do too :) "

" Hey Jenna,
This may sound like a "cop out" but our lives are stressful enough-any help is appreciated.

If I need to speak to someone I know, I'll make the call myself.

If I need information, in other words if it's not a personal call, I use a relay service.

The service I use is Hamilton Relay Service. The service is free to those with speech and hearing disabilities.

I have it set up where "Hamilton Relay" is on my buddy list, and if I need to make a business call, I type the message, and someone will voice the message to the person being called.

It has taken a lot of pressure off of me in certain situations. "

" Hey,
I only have a stuttering problem when I am stressed and it is so bad that each word is repeated at least 5 or 6 times. The worst time on the phone was when I had to call the reverse charge call because I was on my own and my mobile broke. It took 15 mins to get the number out. It didn't help that the number starfted with 0777 so the lady got 000007777777777777 and thought I was joking. I was really sad, but just had to laugh about it...it was hard thuogh. "

" Sometimes I wonder if this is weird but what helps me is to write out what I have to/need to say. And then right before I make the call I take some deep breaths and just tell myself that it's not a big deal. That I can get through whatever the call is for without messing up. Doesn't always help, but at the end I tell myself I did the best I could. "

" Something that has worked for me: start off making an easy call, to a friend or someone you know well. talk about anything, but get acclimated to speaking on the phone for a few minutes. when i do this I find my speech more fluid and im ready to make harder calls to people I don't know. works fairly well for me at work -- though i still struggle with it. I would really encourage you not to do the relay service if you can avoid it. you don't want to start relying on it too much -- the best way to get better on the phone is to practice practice practice. its awful at first but keep moving forward! " I have been looking for other people who have this proble for so long!! I really thought I was crazy. The phone is what triggered it for me after going quite a long time doing good. I was at work as a receptionist! I completly froze and could not get the words out. I wound up getting fired. (they said for other reasons) Writing things on a piece of paper didn't work for me but I did try it. I'm still looking for answers myself so I don't really know what works and what doesn't. I guess TRYING to stay calm. Easier said than done. Good luck to you all. "
