Have you ever wondered if your stuttering problem controled your life? Would you rather stay silent then to speak and take the risk and stutter? I view my stuttering problem as if it was normal. If I get stuck on a word who cares? If someone makes fun of me i'll just say "hey i'm normal you are the one who talks weird"! Find some curage and don't be afraid to talk! The more you feel comfortable to speak the less you stutter and the better you'll be! Please comment and express your feelings!

" You are so right tbone4lif, the more comfortable you are speaking the less you'll stutter. When I started college the first thing I did was intrduce myself as someone who stutters and I was amazed at the responce from others. They didn't laugh nor tease but they treated me just like anyone else.
Now that was a few years back and I know I'm in a bit of a slump now, but I know I'll be talking more and more real soon. "

" That was actually really encouraging! You are very wise for a 15 year old! I am a moderate stutterer--it really depends on where I am. I'm fine at home, but at work or school it can be really hard to spit out complete and fluent sentences. For it, a large part of the difficulty is when I get scared of stuttering, or if i do it a little, start thinking more about it, and when I don't plan what I'm gonna say.

Planning a "phrase" and just having confidence in saying that phrase can really help, but sometimes I overload and think about too many things i want to say!

Amen to your advice!

If you can see it that way, I can too.

=) "

" I went to speech therapy for two years 5 to 7 and learnt techniques to control the pronounced stutter. Left me with posh voice since lost. Its always there and comes out at times but in my case I learnt to beat it down. Appeared in Court as lawyer, read poetry on stage and acted to push the limits. "

" My stuttering was never ever that bad and what issues I did have were dealt with speech therapy. However sometimes even now I do slip up, especially if I'm anxious or nervous. But you're right,it is definately better to speak your mind even if it means stuttering rather than sit there and be mute for the rest of your life. "
