Hi everyone. Thank goodness for the internet! I wish I would have thought to look for a support group sooner. So....Here is our dilema. Chris has had sores on his ankles since april 07. We took him to a doctor here in town (las cruces, nm) and the doctor convinced us to let him perform a third surgery on his feet. (He has recurring clubbed feet) Well, this doctor....who isn't even an orthopedic surgeon, butchered my son. He is a podiatrist who was very good at tooting his own horn about how many hundreds of clubbed feet he has repaired going to other countries.. anyway, the incisions never healed and we have been battling sore after sore ever since. Now his actual ortho surgeon has to do another surgery to undo what the podiatrist did and possibly remove a bone from christophers foot. I'm not sure what the romoval of the bone is for but it has something to do with the fact that Chris has no more "meat" on his feet. He is just skin on bone which is why he keeps rubbing right through his skin and getting more sores. The reason we are holding off on this surgery is because once she does it, chris' feet will stop growing. He already has very small feet. He is four years old and his two year old sister has bigger feet than him. I guess what I am asking in this very lengthy message is if any of you have had problems with sores and if there are any tricks that we may not have tried yet. Thanks so much.

Hi Tara, I have had sores many, many times in the past. They are more along the lines of ulcers that diabetics get...trophic ulcers they take FOREVER to heal...months. I had infection in one so badly on the ball of my foot that it ate the bone in my big toe away. I was probably 15 yrs old at the time and I had to be hospitalized with IV antibiotics and NOT ALLOWED on my feet for a wk to get it to heal. So I guess thats my advice...strong anti-biotics and no pressure if thats at all possible. Have you tried maybe wrapping the ankles so the skin can't be worn down or wearing a thermal underwear full leg? I'm not sure how hot it gets in NM as I"m from Southern Canada but maybe putting something over the skin to avoid any contact to cause friction may help. Wish you the best.

Can he maybe have a skin graft? That way he will have more skin there.. I haven't had that severe pf a problem but there has to be something they can do! I'll try and do some research and ask my surgeon what he thinks. Hang in there.
