" Wow, Tee. You do have a full plate, don't you. (((((hugs)))))

First, I want to welcome you to our group and congratulate you and your husband on your decision to quit smoking. That is a wonderful, loving gift you are giving to yourselves, your children, and others who care about you.

You are in the beginnings of withdrawal from nicotine. You may experience a lot of things such as mood swings, depression, anger, crying for no reason, giddiness, sweats, shakes, nervousness, anxiety, dizziness/lightheadedness, sleep changes (either more or less than normal), digestive changes, cravings for smoking or food, and/or others symptoms. What you experience may or may not be similar to what your husband experiences.

I want you to know that whatever you experience is good, no matter how it feels at the time. It is a sign of healing, it is temporary, and it will do you *NO* harm.

By quitting cold turkey, the nicotine in your body will be gone in about 72 hours unless you take in more in the form of a slip or second hand smoke. That does not mean recovery ends there, though. But it does mean the worst, the physical withdrawal, is over.

This may not be an easy path to travel, but you and your husband can make the journey. Many others are and have. Take advantage of their experiences by browsing this forum.

I recommend three websites for good information on quitting. The first two are specifically for quitting smoking. The third is not, but has good information on addiction recovery that does apply.

Bless both your hearts, Tee.

" Welcome to the group! I quit cold turkey also (beginning day 18 today), so if you need to talk to someone who understands, just find me!

This group really helped to get me this far. On my really bad days, they kept me from going over. Also, doing the daily pledge helps too. I also encourage you to use your journal on here and to post when you need help or just to vent.

Some people say that cinnamon really helps with the cravings. For me, I found black licorice the most helpful.

The first day was the worst and it just got easier from there. After 24 hours, all the horrible physical stuff (headache, brain fog, etc) went away, so hang in there! Then, after day 4 the really hard cravings were pretty much gone. If you can get past the 72 hour mark, where nicotine is gone from your body, you are past the worst! :) I know that seems far away right now (it seemed like the first days and hours drug by!) but you can do it. One thing my husband and I did was to go places where smoking isn't an option and that helped A LOT those first few days. Are there places you can go with the kids that are non smoking?

Hang in there, and know that we're here for you! "

" Welcome Looking and congrats to you and your husband for a smart decision. Sure helps that you are both going through it together.

I was really emotional too, still am sometimes, but that's ok. It always helps to cry, something we sometimes forget to do when we caught up in life.

I can't stress enough how great DS has been in helping me. I did not quit cold turkey, but sure admire those who can. I used Chantix and am on day 21. It is the support of these people here and reading the posts that helped me to quit and stay quit so come here whenever you feel weak and just begin reading.

Good luck to you both and best wishes for a successful quit! "

" Thats GREAT that you and the husband are quitting together! I am on day #13 here and have found participating in Roll call and Pledge each day, to be a HUGE help. Also helpful to me, has been reading the insights of others as they journal and doing likewise myself. You and the husband are in good company here! "
