" Jen, I'm dragging too. I've read from others that being tired is normal and will pass. Staying active, as your doing with the walking, should help you get through this lethargy. Good on you, for the daily 4 miles!! "

" hi jen I went to bed ridiculously early when i quit smoking.I,like you mwas tired all the time.I think it must be something to do with nicotine being a stimulant and your body trying to detox. Also you use up a lot of energy fighting cravings.
Take it easy love kelly
ps if i walked 4 miles,i'd be tired too!!!!! "

" Yes you're normal to sleep more in the beginning, your body will even out in time, just go with it, it's worth it to be FREE! "

" It is totally normal to be exhausted when you quit. Your body is re-regulating itself, detoxing from a host of powerful chemicals. It's important to get plenty of rest, eat well, get plenty of fluids, etc. in the early days. The tiredness will go away. Your four mile walks are probably helping, even though it may not feel that way. "

" Schwartz,
Your body will telll you what it needs during this detox time. I slept so much, I cried, I raged. I just went with the flow. I understand your desire to not gain weight during your quit.
However, aside from nicotine, there are about 2000 chemicals in cigarettes. Your metabolisim will slow down drastically during the first few months as these chemicals slowly leave your body. The most important thing is your quit. Make that #1.
Love,Deb "

" Congratulations on your quit, schwartzist. You are about 1/2 way through the 72 hour detox period. :)

Being tired is normal and will pass. Keep up your morning walks, exercise is really good for you right now, both physically and mentally/emotionally. You should begin to see some change in a week, or so.

Rewards are very important right now. They may not seem like much, but they do a lot to help your brain recover from the damage nicotine inflicted. They don't have to cost much, or anything at all, they just need to make you feel good about yourself. Find some way to reward yourself at least daily for the first couple of weeks. This is a wonderful thing you are doing for yourself and you deserve to be rewarded for it.

Blessings, schwartzist. Keep up the great quit.

" Yep, it's normal. Oddly I didn't have this with my cold turkey quit...only the times I tried with the patch. Weird.

Anyway, one thing I know is that nicotine releases stored sugar from your liver. So, after quitting you need to make sure you eat small meals throughout the day (protein is best) to keep your blood sugar level. It should help some :) "
