Chantix

After hearing so many positive things about Chantix, I asked for an RX when I went to the Dr. I was so excited to try it and started it that day. After 7-1/2 days, I had to stop. The pharmicist said that it would not interact with my Cymbalta, but it did...terribly! If you are taking anything for depression, be very aware of what your body and mind are telling you. Chantix is very new drug and I think that they don't know everything about it. It gives you flu like symtoms, crazy dreams and fatigue. Be careful taking it!

" I have also heard GREAT things about Chantrix and last week got an RX for it as well. I have not gotten it filled yet. I used to be a practicing drug addict {meth} for about 3 yrs and have been clean for about 3 yrs now & wouldn't have it any other way. This is a new Dr. for me and I have only seen him a couple of times . When I got my RX for chantix I failed to tell him about my history as an addict. I want to quit smoking & chantrix sounds great but I do worrie about it sparking addiction or something . I'm thinking I should just start the patch again, I went three weeks before and would've went longer if I stayed on. "

" You may still be able to take the chantix by adjusting the dose. My mom is on it , but is on several other medicines so she only takes one pill a day and sometimes she even misses a day. It took her longer to quit than me, but she is down to 1 or 2 pills a week and 1 or 2 cigs. a week. Work with your doctor, your pharmacist, and there are people on call at the chantix hotline to talk to. There is also a web site I believe it's just chantix.com. I cut down to one pill a day after only 5 weeks because that is all I needed. I am so grateful I quit I feel awesome. The giant nicotine monster is off my back. God Bless You All. "

" July 21st was my 8 month anniversary without smoking. Totally awesome. I'm so happy, I stopped taking the chantix about the middle of March. I haven't used anything else. I know the side effects are hard with the chantix.

#1 people need to understand alot of the bad effects are withdrawal of the nicotine it's not all the fault of the pill.

#2 it is most important to eat a decent meal(not a piece of toast) before you swallow a pill.

#3 I also adjusted the dosage. I've read that some people need to adjust the dose. After the starter week you take a 1 mg twice a day. You may not tolerate 2 pills a day. Try 1 or 2 halfs if you do 1 have it in the early part of the day after a big meal. I cut back to 1 a day after about 5 weeks.

#4 The chantix pill doses you with a chemical to make cigarettes undesirable. I stayed away from smoke and did not smoke any cheats. When I smelled smoke it made me feel sick, if you get sick from being around cig. smoke then the pills are doing their job.

#5 you don't have to take them forever just 12 weeks for most people.

It is very much worth it, if you can get through a few months. It took a lot of years to get so insanely addicted to nicotine. Feel free to ask me questions and I will do my best to answer.

Good Luck and God Bless You All "

" Thanks for all of the responses to my post! A week after I posted this I used the patch, supplemented with the gum. After 2 weeks I was off the patch and using only 1 pc of gum a day.
The end of May, I had a complete physical, emotional meltdown! The pain was incredible! I have never experienced anything like before and haven't since. (and of course I reached for the cigs)
I still contribute it, in a large part to the drug interaction from the Cymbalta and the Chantix.
This drug is still so new...I just don't think that they know the long term effects of it or what all of the drug interactions are.
I wish you all good luck! Keep the quit! "

" I smoked for 25 yrs at least a pack a day, my Mom got sick and almost died from smoking so I made the decision I was going to quit. I got a rx for chantix and it took me 2 months to finally pick a quit date. I took Chantix fo 2 months and I had the craziest dreams, and I did not like the side effects and I still craved cigarettes but it seemed to work. Today is day 180 without even a drag. It has not been easy and the cravings don't go away. It is a choice you have to make everyday to not smoke. The longer you go the easier it is to make that decision to not smoke. It is like being an alcoholic, everyday there is a chance you could relapse, every day you have to make a choice. I picked up Mountain Biking and I am able to do things now I could never do when I was smoking. I take it day by day. Good Luck quitting is well worth it!!!!! "

" I quit smoking taking Chantix, the side effects are horrible and your body "doesn't get use to them" there is no amount of time to take Chantix that your body will "accept" them..I was on Chantix for 5 weeks, I started out taking the prescribed dosage but after 2 weeks I was only able to take 1 dose a day, if I took the norm of 2 doses a day the nausea would floor me, the nightmares would increase, the crazy dreams would increase and the indigestion was untolerable! It was bad enough taking just one dose a day, but chantix got me through the roughest part of quitting..I have been totally smoke free for 7 weeks and counting and going off of chantix was a little difficult because even tho the side effects were horrible, well my body reacted funny when I just quit taking them...They kept me on an even mood, very mellow, but when I quit taking chantix I got very aggressive and bitchy...I ended up going back on chantix for 5 days until I felt like I really had to quit...So for me taking them or not taking them put a strain on my body...but they really do help you quit...its a weird effect, but I quit, I have no desires to smoke, and to smell smoke is gross...I do however "think" I want one because I get bored, not much to do during the day. I am a stay home housewife also battling breast cancer and sometimes I think I just need a smoke because I am bored...Nope I don't let my emotions win...I am a HAPPY QUITTER!! "
