Hi,
I have never been on a airplane with my CPAP machine. Can I carry it on? Or, do I put it in my luggage? Posted on 04/21/08, 07:04 am |

Defiantely carry it on. You'll have to take it out of the bag & place it in a tray when you go thru security. They'll wipe it with a cloth and check the cloth for whatever they're looking for. Not a big deal, I travel all the time and it only takes a minute or two extra.

Thanks for replying Lynda... I feel much better now. I was thinking of just not taking it, worried about bringing it to the airport... now I will just carry it on..

I also carry a letter of "Medical Necessity" from my doctor in case they have any questions. Haven't had to use the letter yet.

I've traveled with American Airlines and it is carry on. Actually as it was a medical device they didn't count it towards the carry on limit. But as things always change would contact the airline you are taking to check.

Unless you have a very long flight, you shouldn't need to use your XPAP on the plane. I have traveled a few times that way and have never had any real problems hauling it along. All my gear and my S8 Vantage fit in one small bag. It all goes with me wherever and however I travel.

I'm going to California in September. I just checked the American Airlines website and a CPAP machine would be considered a personal item like a woman's purse and wouldn't be considered a carry-on bag.
