My shyness

One meeting me would never guess that I suffer shyness (anxiety). I can go to groups of people and converse with them. I am able to initiate conversation too. I go to stores and can often make comments that will get a smile on one's face.

My problem is a weird one that I do not understand. I can leave work knowing fully everyone that I work with but if I were to bump into them over the weekend in a store then I get anxious and fearful. I'm not exactly sure if this is shyness but it does prevent me from talking to them because I become very self aware. I either start to sweat or sometimes I go pale from losing all the blood in my head.

I also cannot talk before a group as I lose color in my face and sweat and that makes me very self conscious. I can't even ask questions in groups. I go to church and sit in the very back hoping that I will never be called on for any reason.

What the heck is my problem and does anyone have any recommendations? This is embarrassing for me and it makes life hard as I fear going to some place where I might be recognized. I hate living like this.

" At times, I feel like I don't know who I am... don't know who to be in the moment. Sometimes I'm so outgoing and funny and fully confident- then... so unsure... Believe it or not, I've met a lot of people who experience what you've described. You never really know what's going on inside a person, under that face, behind that confident voice. This has to do with personalities- a thing we identify as US, but is not US... their is something deeper... To say a human being is complex is to say water is wet. Ok, so maybe we don't quite understand ourselves, but don't fall into the trap of hating yourself for struggling with something others make look so easy. All I can say is that I've really begun to look at myself... and I am changing now... for the good. "
