Advice:
talking to my son

I'm still relatively new so if you read my post here then you know that I absolutely suck out loud when it comes to talking to people. So my dilemma is this: I have yet to have the "talk" with my 11 yr old son. Yes, this may be a topic for parenting but I am very shy and I get a fatal exception error every time I try to translate my thoughts into words. If I can't hold a normal conversation with people then how in the world am I going to get through the sex talk with my son? Should I type it out or find some educational material such as on web md and let him read it? I don't even know where to start in the conversation and am horrified of what may come out of my mouth.

" I'm not a parent myself so I can't provide any useful advice there. I just wanted to let you know I think you're son is one lucky kid to have such a thoughtful mother.

Happy Memorial Day! "

" This is something I worry about come the day lol I don't have kids yet, but I think that he definitely needs "the talk" and getting it from his parent is good. Starting now is great before things start getting really awkward between the two of you. He's approaching adolescence so he might start pulling away from you soon, if you're going to do the talk, do it now! Otherwise the school will probably talk with students, but in my opinion, they filter a lot of things out. "

" Hi, and i understand what you mean, In my case my parents left a book in my room called Learning to live with sex, it was only a small paper back but it had all I needed to know about the facts of life, as I already new most of it from friends and classes at school, or you could type in your search engine The Facts Of Life and then copy the text to a desktop file so he'll see it when he logs on, but I found the book in my room which was placed on my bed was very effective. " Sorry, Vicarious, for a delayed response. I ended up doing the talk for my nephew, who does not have an active father figure in his life. Find a positive male role model who wouldn't mind telling him what he needs to know. I hate to say this, but there are things that a man will go through during puberty that a woman could never comprehend (kind of like me explaining menstruation; it's just not something I have a clear grasp on). He will need somebody who understands. Good luck on that rite of passage. "
