" Welcome. I'm pretty new too. As for the IUI-definitely give it a try. They aren't terribly expensive, about 400-600 per insemination (not including testing). If you get pregnant doing that it'll save you a lot of invasive procedures and $$$.
Best of luck! "

" I agree with crs25horses, I would certainly give IUI a try first, since it's much less expensive than IVF. I too, have mild endo and have one child but have had a really hard time getting and staying pregnant since then. I'm currently on my second IUI, this time with Clomid... my RE said that we have a 50/50 shot over the next 3 attempts. Will you be doing Clomid as well?
Good luck to you! "

" I agree that maybe just try one or two before IVF since they are way less expensive. BUT, that being said, I did 4 IUI's and still planned on doing 2 more, but with the injectables and monitoring, mine cost about $1000 total. I decided to just jump to IVF and save the few thousand for that. I am okay with that decision, but I know others take more time on IUI's. I guess it depends how much time and $$ you have! Good luck! " Have you had IUI's before?? If so how many?
If you are willing to give them a try I would try 3 IUI's... after that, they say your chances of conceiving that way do not increase. So basically, if you are going to get preggo with IUI they say the majority will in the first 3 cycles... "

" no i have not tried iui before. But with my doctor they are $700 a pop. They realy havent even given me a reason for me having so much troble getting pregnant (like tubes blocked or eggs not viable) the woman in my family have just had a very hard time getting pregnant and they don't know why but my mother thinks that it is are eggs. I would be willing to try but i just don't want to spend 2,000 dollars and be at square one again . I have heard that your chances are better at ivf. what do you think? "

" Hi Desiree, I thought to mention one other thing. Supplements! There is a supplement that my (very progressive) dr put me on called Daily Wellness Fertility Blend for Women(they have men's too). Apparently the supplements that contain vitex and chasteberry have a fair amount of success supporting pregnancy. There is a website www.iherb.com. It is supposed to enhance the female cycle, egg quality, and encourage healthy pregnancy.
Good luck!! "

" Thanks for the website crs25horses. I will have to check it out. I have had this same question but with injectibles vs. IVF. I was a bit reluctant to do IUIs too but followed the advice of my RE and did 4. I would probably suggest going that route too just because IUIs really are cheaper and so much easier. But I might look around for the price. Every IUI we have done has been $290.00. To add clomid to that means adding a vaginal ultrasound at $200.00. So, unless the $700 price you quoted us is including the femara (and I have no idea how much femara costs because I've never done femara) then that $700 price sounds high to me for just an IUI.

I've never done injectibles but with "unexplained" IF I don't really know why I would. My DH and I agree that if we are going to move on (and I really think we will because we are both done with IUIs and I'm not content to just let it go) then why waste our time and money on injectibles ($1000-2000 per cycle) without a more definitive reason for doing them. The way my RE described it is that IUIs give you that for sure 15%-20% chance of conception that the average fertile woman has. Injectibles increase your chance by 2-3% percentages (not worth it to us) but IVF increases your chance quite dramatically (maybe as high as 50%).

I was ready to be done with IUIs after 2 of them but my RE said that since you only have a 15-20% chance with an IUI (sort of leveling the playing field with those fertile women) then you really should do 4-6 of them. Stephwit commented that after 3 of them your chances go down (I've never heard that but I believe it) so I think if I were you I'd do 3.

So, I can understand your thinking but...if you can get preggers with an IUI that would be awesome for you. So much nicer. Good luck deciding. "

" I would encourage you to try IUI's. I do know that endometriosis CAN affect the quality of your eggs, but I have one healthy child so I know there are some healthy ones in there!!! IVF does bypass this quality issue by choosing the best embryos... so that is an advantage.. Your price for IUI's sounds high to me... my clomid/IUI cycle was only in the neighborhood of $400. But since you have a fairly descent shot through IUI I would try that before dropping $12K plus on IVF. Good luck to you!!! "
