" Yes, my sister's curve left one lung non functioning. She also has emphasemia and her other lung is black. She still smokes. Please if any of you are smoking..I BEG you to quit. It is possible. I smoked for 35 years and put them down 9 years ago. "

" My sister has had the surgery about three times. Each time her back is worse. Her daughter, my niece, on the other hand had the surgery once and is doing very well. Good luck I know this is a very difficult decision. "

" Just got back from outpatients thought I had a chest infection or worse lung cancer. Seems it's my scoliosis causing the pain in my chest. Scans on Tuesday to be sure. "

" Not necessarily lung failure...rather is gatting quite hard to walk up hills, without getting winded and out of breath..could be combined with heart murmur I have..
either way I have to walk places and is quite scary...
my neck is degenerating as well..no idea if this is possible but I 'feel' like I may be curving more...and I had a fusion....

" I am told that Scoliosis limits the capacity of your lungs to expand. Limited capacity = equals less air. Like trying to blow up a large balloon in a small glass. You only get so much glass no matter how big the balloon is. Dr told me to make sure to take several deep breaths several times a day. Said it reminds your lungs to use the full potential. Hope this helps. "

" They told me that if I didn't have the surgery it would puncture my lungs. They told me that that was the only solution. "
