" Welcome to DS, I left a comment on your journal entry so I won't double up here. Just wanted to say Hello and as you research scoliosis you will soon see that no one is to "blame" for this. Hang in there! "

" What you're feeling about "blaming" yourself is a very normal thing! DONT! It's not your fault and there is absolutely nothing you can do to stop it. I just went through surgery with my daughter and believe me, I felt the same that I should have noticed this sooner.
Here is a great website to educate yourself about scoliosis...
www.iscoliosis.com
read it, it will explain and really help you to understand more about scoliosis.
Do get your kids to a Orthopedic Doctor and one who specializes in this is best. Waiting will not help. Please write more if you want answers. DS is a wonderful place for support.
Scoliosis is hard to accept and understand especially when it's your child!
HUGS to you! "

" Relax, you couldn't have caused it. It is unknown what causes most cases of scoliosis. And it's not a crappy thing, nor a sentence to life in hell...I actually have very severe scoliosis, but I love my life. I advise that your kids exercise, mainly stretching...perhaps that may help slow the progression. But really, the best advice you could get is from your doctor...and maybe other people with scoliosis. Link to scoliosis info: http://www.webmd.com/back-pain/tc/... "

" Hi,

Just to say that I was diagnosed with Scoliosis at 16 and I found that my mum was also looking to blame herself for it. You must realise that scoliosis can not be blamed on anyone! it can happen for a number of reasons which can be genetic or completely unknown. There is no way (as yet) to test for the Scoliosis jean as with many other diseases but hopefully in the future it will be something they can check for. I live a perfectly 'normal' life with scoliosis and it just becomes something you live and deal with. I find that swimming is a good way to relieve aches and pains and also to keep your muscles balanced. Please don't blame yourself...wishing you and your kids all the best x x x "

" Please dont blame yourself. Yes Scoliosis is a horrible thing, but there are worse things out there. I have quite a severe curve (100 degrees)You wouldnt know to look at me that I have scoliosis and not once has it stopped me from doing anything I want to do, concerts, parties, sports (I used be able to do a mean backflip! but that was before children came along lol) What you can do for them in the meantime is dont wrap them up in cotton wool, but dont ignore it either, find a nice middle ground, If they are offered surgery take it. I refused it when I was 15 and now the surgery im hopefully about to have is quite complicated. Exercise is the best thing, swimming, stretching, dancing etc. I can only imagine how you feel, I have a 2 year old boy and in the beginning I was constantly checking his spine for curves. I hope this message makes you feel a bit better. It certainly doesnt make you a lazy or bad mother, please dont listen to your father, he is VERY wrong. "

" Both my kids have scoliosis and I had them when I was 33 and 36. My daughter was diagnosed with a 24 degree curve at age 8 and wore a brace for a year and is now at 11 degrees. My son wasnt diagnosed until age 18 with a 50 degree curve and had fusion surgery and is doing well. You did nothing and I did nothing wrong so don't blame yourself. Just get them the best medical care you can now by going to a scoliosis surgeon someone whose practice is devoted to scoliosis vs a jack of all trades. "

" Hello

This was not your fault do not take the blame just make sure your kids are getting the best help from MRI ,Xrays, and continue doing this do plenty research and stay postive and everything will work out fine also i did a lot of praying and support from this webite . There is nothing you can do to stop the curve unless your doctor recommend a brace depending on the degree of the curve. My prayers arw with you and your family (especially your kids) Take Care Big dee "
