How long after having a spinal fusion is the norm for returning to normal activity and how much weight could be lifted and when?? Will be having the surgery next mo, and just wanted some experiences from someone about how long it takes.

" 6 months is the normal time they say for the fusion. No lifting more than 5 lbs past your chest area. 3 things our Doctor said, no lifting, no bending, no twisting.
Hard not to but that's what I've read and was told after surgery for my daughter. "

" I had the spinal fusion last April and it took me about a month before I went back to my normal life, maybe a little less than a month. The doctor said to definately not lift anything over a gallon of milk, like the other comment says. You can't twist like at all, even if you wanted to. Don't try. It hurts. And you can bend, just learn your limits so that you don't hurt yourself. "

" Do youall mean that lifting this much was in the recovery time period or permanently? Im kinda confused. I am just wandering if I will ever be able to pick up my son again - ever - he is only 1 yr old maybe how long it will be till I can do it. "
