I was wondering if anyone had any adverse reactions to this drug? Since I have been taking it (2 months) while weaning off of the prednisone I have been feeling really ill.

" I HAVE NEVER TAKEN METHOTREXATE MYSELF, BUT I KNOW COMING OFF OF PREDNISONE TOO FAST CAN CAUSE YOU TO FEEL SICK, HAVE JOINT PAIN/ACHES. I KNOW MY DOCTOR TOLD ME THAT HE WOULD ONLY USE METHOTREXATE AS A LAST RESORT(IF PREDNISONE NO LONGER WORKED FOR ME OR THE SARCOID WAS JUST TO BE BAD)BECAUSE ITS SIDE EFFECTS WERE A LOT WORSE THAN PREDNISONE. SO MAYBE YOUR DOCTOR NEEDS TO RE-EVALUATE YOUR MEDS. JUST STAY ON YOUR DOCTORS UNTIL YOU GET A REGIME THAT WORKS FOR YOU. TAKE CARE. "

" Hi, Renee

I have been on methotrexate for almost 2 years now. I was very sick when I was taking the pill form. I had terrible headaches, diahrea, stomach cramps just an all over feeling of being ill. In Oct. of last year I switched to the injection for of methotrexate. I give myself a shot every Friday night. I am 100% better. Now, I might have one day per week that I feel bad. I only have the diahrea once in a while. The other days I am fine. So, for me, this was the best move. When my doctor first suggested that I try the shots I was scared to death. I didn't think I would be able to do it. The first few times it was scary but, now I am like a pro.
If the pill form is making yo sick talk to your doctor...even if you can't give yourself the shot you can go into the office one day per week and the nurse can give you the shot. That was also an option for me.

Also, when you first start the methotrexate, the first 6 months are the worse. It takes your body a while to get used to this drug. Do remember that Methotrxate is a form of chemo.

Good Luck
Let me know how you are doing.

Jennifer "
