Anyone Used Methylprednisolone?

I have taken prednisone several times with great success....usually just as a temporary measure to help with pain until another med can take effect. Now they have given me methylprednisolone, saying that its similar in nature. I'm not sure its working the same...anyone have experience with this? Thanks!

" While studying some info on Rituxan, which I recently started using, I saw a reference to methylprednisolone being administered by IV (100mg) prior to the Rituxan infusion, to "reduce the incidence and severity of infusion reactions." And that's what happened for me. Sorry that doesn't help you for ongoing usage.

What's the other med that you're waiting on? Oh, wait a second. I just saw your post where you said you're about to start Enbrel. You, right? Well, best of luck. Sure hope it works well for you. "

" I believe the medrol dose packs consist of methylprednisone. I believe they are different names for generics of prednisone. "

" I have used both and have worked fine. I actually prefer the Medrol pack (methylprednisone) better. I was also on Enbrel and only used the Medrol pack when I came down with a bug and couldn't take my shot. Good luck. "

" Thanks for your comments! For some reason the medrol pack (is that right....not sure I spelled correctly) doesn't work on me. Its the weirdest thing! Anyway, my doc called me in some prednisone today so I am on my way to feeling better! "

" There are many reasons why the medrol dose pack doesn't work. It gives you about 20mg. of prednisone the first day, and each day after it tapers down. When I am flaring the dose pack is not a sufficient influx of the drug into my system and I require a prescription for prednisone. I use the medrol dose pack for when I want to stay away from a flare. Times like traveling, the air pressure plays havoc with my hands and feet. Also if are sick, often the dose pack will keep your RA from flaring. Sometimes a one week supply is all you need, but if you are in a full fledged flare it doesn't help much at all. "

" Thanks for that info...it helps so much. The previous few times I've taken prednisone, I took it in a descending dosage. But today, my doc called in the instructions as follows: 1 tablet twice a day for 7 days, then 1 a day for the remainer of the prescription. Do you think this will help me if I've having lots of pain? I was about half-way thru the medrol pack today but stopped because of the new prescription. I am getting ready to take a 4 day trip next week and need to be sharp for several presentations. Hope this is gonna work! "
