CyberKnife Benefits Patients with Difficult Tumors
Patients with tumors along the spinal cord or in other critical locations can now benefit from state-of-the-art treatment that directs high-dose radiation at the tumor while preserving healthy tissues. A noninvasive procedure, it is the latest development in stereotactic radiosurgery technology and goes by the name CyberKnife. Yes..gamma knife and cyberknife have been studied for brain metastasis from renal cell carcinoma and more centers are able to provide this therapy. 1) Gamma Knife surgery is effective for metastatic brain tumors from renal cell carcinoma. While the DISAPPEARANCE rate of tumors is relatively low the GROWTH control is high. 2) Gamma Knife surgery should be used as the initial treatment in patients with multiple metastases from renal cell carcinoma. 3) Repeated gamma knife is recommended for newly developed brain metastases because of the low sensitivity of renal cell carcinoma to conventional radiation Dr O.
