Hello everyone,
I'm Simon from North Carolina. I was diagnosed with Von Hippel Lindau last October when they removed a tumor that was on the right side of my spinal cord and attached to the base of my brain.I was just diagnosed with RCC.Still in shock about it honestly.Never heard of a 26 year old with kidney cancer but I know it's a complication of the VHL.My dad died in 2004 of RCC at the age of 52.I watched him lie in Hospice and that scares me.Well I really don't know what else to say at the moment so I'll leave it at that for now.Just wanted to do a little introduction. Hope to talk to some of you soon, Simon Posted on 04/12/08, 05:04 pm |

So your dad probably had VHL as well? You need to get connected with the VHL support group. I posted to you on the VHL discussion board as well. Its a very strange world where my grief over something else brought me here to help you.

Simon: cant speak to the VHL but I had RCC at 38 and had 1/2 of a kidney removed this year. I think both of us are young to have had this. My operation was in January and my first set of scans at the 4 month mark came back clean. I may not be out of the woods yet, but I just wanted you to know there is some positive stuff on this site as well. Keep the faith. Let me know how I can help

Read where you are from NC and wanted to say hello to a fellow Tarheel. I am from Greensboro, but am now living in Lakeland, Fl and receiving treatment for RCC at Moffitt Cancer Ctr in Tampa.
Stay in touch and know that there are others just as lost, confused and scared as you. We all need each other.

I am new to this group also. My 59 yr. old husband had his kidney and ureter removed this past Friday. He is still hospitalized. The doctor tried to do the removal laparascopicly but was unable to and so it was converted to open surgery. Very long - 7 hours in surgery. Incision is across his abdomen and around to his back a little ways.
We have not had a Stage told to us yet. That will come after the results of the biopsy are back in 10 or so days. The doctor did say it was "a difficult surgery" and that he will need to have chemo. He has morphine through a pump right now. Deeana

Simon, hi! I was diagnosed with RCC in July 2007. I had a part of my left kidney removed in August 2007. 1 year post-op I've had 2 sets of clean scans. I agree with Scottsal: there are positive stories out there about RCC and I'm one of them. I'll be thinking of you.
