False Rape

I would like to conduct an experiment of sorts. Because there has been something weighing on my mind for quite some time now. I was raped in October of 2007. So it has been about five months. The second trial is this Friday and I still have not had to go to court yet. I was getting frustrated because this process is taking so long and I didn't know why. What I found out made me sick.

There are people every day LYING about rape. Especially in younger girls, they will have consensual sex and then get mad at the guy and accuse him of rape. This is why the Rape Kit is so important. And while the Rape Kit is a great idea, the first thing that I though to do after I was raped was shower. I felt disgusting. And what I am wanting to know is how common that is. Because I showered, there was no DNA picked up with the Rape Kit and that is why the trial is taking so long.

So what I was wondering is whether you did or did not get the Rape Kit, did you shower immediately after the rape?

" I didn't even think about reporting; it was someone I was close to at the time, and the way things were at that time and place, I really didn't think I could expect a fair hearing from the police.
I think there's always going to be an element of "her word against his" in a lot of rape cases; even if the legal system changed tomorrow it would still be a difficult thing to prove.
Although from what I've read, false allegations are actually quite rare, at least the proven cases. You'd have to be extremely vindictive and messed-up to make a false rape claim against someone. Cases where rape simply couldn't be proven are probably much higher. Just my thoughts on the subject. "

" Because i was so confused and didnt know what had happened it took me 3 days to report my attack. I had 3 baths by the time they did the rape kit and the results were negative. In my case this is not important because i was not raped in a typical way so the police didnt expect to find semen. I also am waiting and waiting and waiting for something to happen. I was attacked 3 months ago and the men have yet to be charged. this is to happen hopefully at the end of March and then another 4 months till court. I think its a disgrace they make victims wait this long. It prolongs the agony and i for one dont feel able to be normal and move on. If i laugh or go out i feel people dont think im bothered. Its hard to know what to do. I hope your case goes well. Lots of luck

" A SANE exam can recover some evidence even after a shower, although it's very compromised.

The FBI, incidentally, has repeatedly studied the issue of false rape reports. They find, over and over, that these DO happen, but the rates are 2-8%, which are no higher than false reports for any other violent crime. Or in others words, MORE than 9 times out of 10, women are telling the truth when they report rape.

I have encountered false reports--when you've had several hundred rape clients in clinical practice, that's a statistical inevitability--but my inclination is to believe these reports. "

" i had extensive trauma so even though there wasn't any dna or anything there was a lot of proof medically of what happened to me even though a trial of sorts is kind of impossible when i was flown to canada there was a sort of "verification period" where they had to make sure basically all the shit that happened really did happen which i found kind of funny because the police were the ones who found me "

" I do understand that it is rare, I am just wondering about the shower aspect of it all. Because as we know, the DNA is a very important part of the charging. "

" I did not report my rape for 8 years. I am responding to your question about bathing being a first inclination. I was so distraught that I knew I needed to be clean. While I bathed, I frantically scrubbed every inch of my body until my skin was quite red. The water was too hot, and I saw a bottle in the bathroom that said ...'kills germs'...so I poured it into the tub. It was Lysol. Yes, I believe our inclination is to be clean and rid of their filth.
