I have Guttate psoriasis and I'm having a really severe flare up. I've recently started a diet and am drinking a lot of water and I thought if anything it would help my skin. Do you think that maybe toxins are coming out and it will calm down eventually? Has anyone had a similar experience?

Deb, I used to have a terrible skin problem, but I started taking a vitamin that really helped. it's called GH3, NOT Human Growth Hormone, check out the website for a better explanation soakawaythepounds.com, then go to anti aging vitamins, hope it helps you too!

Thanks for sharing the info. I have had psoriasis since I was 13. I listen to and look into every piece of advise I get. You never know when the suggestion will be the one treatment that works for you, right? :)

Hey Deb!
Really sucks about the flare-up, i went through one recently too when I switched my diet. Thats a good thing that you are drinking alot of water. It should be the only thing you drink (no pop, sugary drinks). I must ask, what types of eating habits did you have before the diet? what types of foods have you started eating now in contrast? The reason I ask is that I am making huge progress with the diet/program I'm on, and I'm trying to compare.

Hi bangarang, My diet is primarily what I was eating before but measured portions and a calorie limit of 1200 calories per day. I stay away from fast food and dinner reservations at least in the beginning. I have been on this diet before starting in 1975 to lose baby weight after my son Nick's birth. The biggest difference is that I stopped drinking. Still, everything I'm doing is for the better and usually my flare ups are caused by emotional episodes like when my Dad died. Can't figure this out. Maybe it has to get worse before it gets better? What do you think of that theory?

ah, i see. the reason I asked is that I'm doing the diet outlined in "Healing Psoriasis: The Natural Alternative" (isbn 0962884707), and have noticed HUGE improvements in my skin over the last month. Its not an easy diet, and I've had to completely eliminate some of my favorite foods, like anything fried, white potatoes and tomatoes (ketchup). I didnt realize how much tomatoes and white potatoes affected my psoriasis until I completely eliminated them, but it was noticible, i assure you.
The thing thats was most alarming is that I did have an initial bad flare-up when I started cleaning myself out. Its just the toxins leaving the body. My flare-up is over and done with now, and all the spots are lighter and lighter everyday. My face is completely clear too, except for a little on my scalp. I'm not even using my hydrocortisone or other meds hardly at all anymore, except on my hands in the morning. Plus, I've lost at least 10 lbs over the last month. I've always been in moderately good shape, but seriously, I feel healthier than I ever have before in my life. that book was the best $20 I've spent in a long time. Its worth a read to anyone that has this disease, even if you decide its not the option for you. The people that fail are the people that don't stick with the diet. Sometimes it can be months before you see results. Like I always say..patience is the way of the warrior;)

I bought the book but haven't gotten far enough along to know the foods to eliminate. Should I just go to the diet section? I am surprised at all the hype on supplements. Are you taking them? I bought the pancreatic enzymes because my drinking was heading me towards pancreatitis.

first you are gonna want to go on the clensing diet. I did the only fresh fruit one for three days. I didnt really read about alot of supplements, other than the saffron and slippery elm teas, which I do take. What supplements are you referring to?
I just eat alot of fresh fruits and veggies, and only fish and chicken. At least one fresh green salad a day. no fried foods, no tomatoes, no eggplant, no paprika, peppers (except black for seasoning), no red meat, and avoid processed foods. Theres a few more, but that should get you started.

hi,
i just started another thread about the Pagano book, and am glad to see some other discussion about it. i did not go crazy on all the products when i did it before. i think what i used was: slippery elm powder (yucky), fish oil, lecithin and/or evening primrose oil caps, sesame or almond oil on the skin Deb, i want to commend you on quitting drinking. i did it 16 years ago, and am an active member of AA

Hi Deb,
I had an awful case of Guttate in the spring, had P from head to toe but was triggered by a bought of strep throat. When I finally got in to see the derm. he said Guttate usually has a life span of a couple of months - hopefully yours will clear soon. I tried a supplement program called Barney's formula (less the daily advil) which worked well and getting sun as much as possible. The one supplement that I notice makes the biggest difference is a good quality fish oil, I ran out for awhile and noticed red spots coming back - after a few days back on it they faded. If you do try the Barneys Formula epxect a perdiod of 'worse before better' here's the link http://www.barneysformula.net/ Good Luck! C.
