Gold Seed?

Almost 2 weeks ao after my husband saw his new primary care dr here the dr gave him a referral to a urologist. Of course he insisted it was a oncologist, so I left it for the day. The next day I called the oncology center and asked "does my husband need a urologist here in town?" The answer from the woman was, wait until he sees the oncologist next week and ask. Ok, so a week goes by, finally sees the oncologist and then comes home and tells me what is planned. No mention of a urologist, except there is one in town. So the next day I get a call from the oncology center telling me to make an appt with Dr Harris (urologist in other group) to have gold seeds implanted in the prostate. I explain to the woman, hey...he cannot see Dr Harris now that he is in the other med group and why the heck didn't anyone even bother just to get the referral to the guy here in town. I reminded the woman I specifically asked about urologists and she told us to wait. So a referral is getting made BUT what are the gold seeds for? I would actually look it up, but i think one of my grandkids took my reading glasses and I cannot find them anywhere and doing puter stuff without them is awful. Bi-focals are NOT puter friendly. My guess is the gold acts as some kind of direct conductor for the radiation beam (?) to hit it's target dead-on. I swear I get more confused as each day goes by and husband is no help as he does not ask questions, he just sort of listens. I was to go with him but something medical came up with me and my dr had an opening at the same time as hubbys appt and since we were in the same building I figured it would work. I actually thought I would be done first then could go into his drs office, but nope...he was outside waiting for me...we finished up close together on time. All I know is pretty soon cannot tell hubby his ass is grass....it will have to be your ass is golden. Or his fave saying is "your ass sucks buttermilk", I will have to convert it to something else for a comeback. Oh by the way, his disposition has not improved even now that he finally is in the right med group with all the right drs....keeps this up and I will remove the tumors with my paring knife...just kidding (well maybe not)

" Gold markers are placed in the prostate to guide external radiation procedures. Radiation technicians zero in on these markers to identify the prostate and to direct the radiation beam - usually X-rays.
There are three markers implanted and they are not removed - they cause no problems.
These gold markers are implanted if the patient has opted for external radiation. I don't think they are used for brachytherapy(radioactive seeds injected into the prostate). The markers are tiny, but show up well on the techician's equipment to guide the beam. "

" OK just found out the 3 teensy gold seeds my husband is now "wearing" cost TWO HUNDRED BUCKS!!!!! That is more than I paid for my 14Kgold and diamond wedding bad. Can I hock him later????? He had his CT contrast scan yesterday, less than thrilled with the whole procedure, more embarrassed I think. The tattoing went fine except one, he said it hurt pretty bad when she did it. i figure she hit a nerve or something. The made the mold or shiled or whatever it is too and we had a follow up talk with the nurse. He goes back next week for scan results, guess to make sure everything was done ok, then the week after that he starts the treatments...finally. At least the weather is cooling so we won't be dealing with trouncing around in 105 degree heat. Also some of the treatments will be in the city next over so I can take advantage of being there for shopping. May as well combine as many things as possible into one trip to save on gas. I also contacted Cancer Society and he will be able to get gas mileage reimbursement for those trips out of town. Were just glad it is all starting finally and we can see the end now. These last several weeks of this and that were awful, all he did was fret about it. Now I am sure he is trying to think up reasons for postponing things...LOL he is THAT way. Perverse. If it weren't for me nagging he may now just be finding out that he has prostate cancer, was always postponing drs visits and blood work...guess I did something good for once in that regard. Wish I could nag him to take the trash out better, both of us hate that job. Tonight is trash night and it is HIS turn LOL. Gotta run, need to run some errands before I pick up graddaughter from school...where does my early day go? On the puter that is where. Take care all:) "

" I found the most helpful thing I did for my husband was go with him on his visits and became an advocate for his treatment plan. You get a lot of information at one time and it can be overwhelming and hard to remember. I now go with him on his followup visits too. "
