Bone Loss in men receiving anti-androgen therapy
Watch this
View More Posts Ignore
A recent study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine March 2007 looked at Men with Prostate cancer receiving androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) and prevention of bone loss
1) Androgen deprivation therapy (orchiectomy, lupron, etc) in men with prostate cancer IS associated with bone loss and FRACTURES
2) Fosamax (alendronate) 70 mg once a week prevented bone loss and subtantially increased bone mass in addition to decreasing bone turnover in men receiving ADT
3) It is important for men with prostate cancer receiving ADT to be screened for bone density and receive the appopriate preventive measures.

Any of you taking Fosamax?

" Thanks for the info. I have had a Vantas implant for a year, and just had a new implant inserted for one more year. My doctor recently recommended that I take calcium and vitamin D. Does age make a difference in bone loss? I am 51.

BTW, I've dealt with depression for years and years. I asked my doc for a physical to see if there were medical reasons. I think he threw in a PSA, and it came back high. If I wasn't depressed, I may not have found out about the cancer for several more years! "

" I think radiation caused that too in me. I felt my bones and teeth effected.

I am taking calcium supplements and Chinese Golden Flower's Trauma 1 and Trauma 2 as prescribed by Ancient Universal Medicines. "
