" I know of a man that has and done very well.

I chose pure IMRT. I think it went well and I will be well with it done.

I intergrated that and Auyervedic care. It was an awesome experience. "

" Actually this is a question. We just found out today my husband has prostate cancer and has an appt next week to set up ewhatever treatment will be best for him. However, I am doing research now so I know what the heck they will be talking about and I was reading about the brachytherapy...the radiation seed treatment and I too was wondering what type of results there are. I have no knowledge of any of this yet, all I know was his psa level was 5.5 after a few years of it slowly rising until his reg dr sent him to the urologist. I know he has a gazillion ?'s and he asks me but since I am not a dr I cannot answer so the best i can do is ask ?s myself. Any answers or replies most gratefully received. "

" My husband Jeff (60) had seeds put in 6 weeks ago...his PSA was 2.7 and Gleason score 6...He was a very good candidate for seeds because his cancer is very early stage. His prostate is also not too enlarged(32 cc). I believe that seeds is a good option for someone with stage 1 prostate cancer. Finding a good doctor who has performed many seed procedures is important. Jeff's doctor has done 4000 plus procedures. So far Jeff is doing well...he has his PSA checked after 3 months which will be the 2nd week of July. The main side effect for Jeff is urgency (urine and bowel) that kind of comes and goes. No problem getting erections...He does get tired during the day...
The seeds procedure is outpatient and took about an hour to perform (the paperwork took longer than the procedure)! After someone has seeds for 60 days, the potency lessens everyday until it just stops. I think it's "all done" in eight months. Side effects should lessen as the potency lessens. I have come to understand that the prostate isn't destroyed, it gets scarred from the radiation. One advantage of seeds is that one doesn't have to go everyday to get a treatment. There are some cases where a man has seeds and external beam radiation combined...I believe this is when the gleason score is higher than 6. One of the reasons we chose seeds is because Jeff was kind of scared of the surgery...I should mention that at the same time that he got his seeds, his good friend Bill (66) had a radical prostatectomy and he says that he is doing "just great" He had a fabulous very experienced doctor...that matters alot!
I know how frustatrating and confusing it is trying to select the right procedure. For each treatment there are pros and cons. I believe that regardless of what you choose, pick a doctor who has A LOT of experience and try not to second guess yourself...just move forward and be optimistic about the future! "
