eating habits..?

My son will be 4 months on friday and born a month early. A few weeks ago he was eating 5oz every 4hrs. Now it has decreased quite a bit. He is only eating 3 or 4oz every 4 hrs or so.
I took him to the doc on friday and they said he was just teething. And as of friday he had only gained 1lb in over a month. Think this is normal? Do you think that his eating habits could be because he was born early? Think they will pick up soon? should I be worried ? :S I feel so lost in all this!

" This is interesting. I don't really know what to tell you other than the doctor knows best. My daughter was born almost 2 months early and just turned 4 months old. She is still only eating 4 oz every 4 hours. We were talking just yesterday about upping her feedings a little because she is starting to take the whole 4oz bottle. She is however constantly gaining weight and really thats what you should look at. We have a chart that says about how many oz they need in a day based on their weight. My daughter gains between an ounce and an ounce and half per week and the doctor told us that was good. She is up to almost 12 pounds now (born at 2lbs 12 ounces "

" My son was born 8 weeks early. For the first 10 months of his life he never ate more than 4 oz. The doctor's had us push him up to 5 oz right before they took him off formula. He was 4lbs. 5 oz. at birth and today at 23 mos. he weighs 23 lbs. The doctor's have always given me a problem because he is underweight, but he has constantly gained so they are happy with that. Every baby develops at their own speed. I have a girlfriend whose little girl was born on time, normal weight and is very tiny. She has been to specialists and had all types of tests done and she is fine. Her son was the same way - now her son is 14 and he is overweight. As long as you feel she is healthy, try and relax. "
