Bailey was born at 36 weeks 4 days. He is now 14 weeks. He has only cooed and smiled a couple of times. And not sure if the smile was just gas. I have not seen him hit any milestones yet. I am getting worried. Am I just being a worried Mom or do I have reason to? He was in the NICU for 3 weeks after born due to seizures when born, problems breathing, heart condition. He is now currently on meds for heart and seizures. They dr also thinks he has reflux. HELP

" Technically Bailey developmentally is on 10 weeks old because they go by corrected age for preemies. No I don't think you are a worried mom. I think your gut is what you have to go by. On the same token you know all babies do things at their own rate. My daughter Karly for example was born at 26 weeks. She did not crawl until she was over a year old. Now at 20 months she runs all over the place. As far as the reflux is he gaining weight? Does he not want to eat? They are big tell tale signs besides of course spitting up. Have a G.I. Doctor check him out. I always tried to go to a specialist and it did pay off for a lot of problems that my twins had. FYI: Do not let them put him on reglan. My son was on reglan for reflux by the pediatrician. Well I made an appt with a G.I. doctor at Children's hospital of Philadelphia because it just wasn't working. Well he took him off right away. Reglan can cause tremors which Kyle had but they kept telling me it was neurological but guess what? After we stopped the Reglan the tremors stopped! Good luck. "

" Try not to worry (I know easier said than done right) My girls were born at 29 weeks. They are only slightly behind, but I felt the same way you did. I was concerned because they weren't reaching certain milestones when they should. I think the most important thing you can do for your baby is spend as much one on one time that you can with him. As far as the reflux goes, my girls had it pretty bad. They are on reglan and zantac. Both meds have been a Godsend! Also after they eat, we leave them sit up in a seat for atleast 30 minutes, or we hold them sitting upright. Lukily since they are strating to hold themselves up more, the reflux seems to be going away, thank goodness! Let me know if you have any questions, I'd be glad to help! "

" I HAD MY SON AT 33WKS AND HE SPENT A WEEK IN THE HOSPITAL DUE TO BREATHING PROB'S AND THEN THEY WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT HE WOULD GROW AND EAT PROPERLY.I REMEMBERING FEELING WORRIED BECAUSE I WOULD BREASTFEED HIM AND HE WOULD FALL ASLEEP AT THE BREAST. AND WE BROUGHT HIM HOME MAN DID HE THRIVE. GAINING ALL KINDS OF WEIGHT AND EVERYTHING. WHEN HE WAS ABOUT 15MONTHS I WAS WORRIED BECAUSE HE WASNT TALKING MUCH AND EVERYONE KEPT TELLING ME GIVE IT TIME AND I HAVE AND NOW HE WONT STOP TALKING AND ALL THAT.HE HASNT BEEN BEHIND AT ALL. I WOULDNT WORRY ABOUT IT I THINK SOMETIMES WE TEND TO WORRY MORE BECAUSE WE KNOW OUR BABIES ARE PREEMIES AND WE TEND TO THINK THEY WILL BE BEHIND AND SIT AND WAIT FOR THEM TO DO SOMETHING WRONG AND OR NOT DO IT ON THE RIGHT TIME FRAME.SO ALL I CAN SAY IS TALK WITH YOUR PEDITRICIAN AND TELL HIM HOW YOU FEEL AND MAYBE HE CAN HELP YOU DETERMINE WEATHER THERE IS A PROBLEM OR NOT! GOOD LUCK ! "

" I wouldn't worry about cooing and smiling. More like: Is ist looking at you when you talk to him? Does he follow you with his eyes/head? Is he developing stronger muscles? Trying to lift his head? Otherwise trying to move? If so don't worry.
regarding reflux read up on it and try to go without meds. If nothing helps, take the meds as your baby should not suffer, but for little babies medication should not be first choice but second if nothing else brings relief. Good luck. "
