I am 26 weeks and my cervix is shortening. Today doctor sent me to hospital to be monitored for contractions and to have an internal to make sure the cervix is closed. It was so they sent me home. However, they gave me the steriod shot to develop the lungs. I have to go back tomorrow for the 2nd shot. Has anyone ever been in this situation and could give me advice?

Thanks!!

" I am sorry for what you are going through. I have been there before so I know what you are going through and how you are feeling.

My first son I was sick the whole pregnancy and started having pre-term labor. They monitored me but never gave me the shot. I was always in the hosptial getting shots to stop the contractions. I did end up having him at 35 weeks but everything was fine with him besides he didn't know how to eat yet since he had not developed the sucking motion in the womb yet and he was only 4lbs 15oz at birth. He is 2 1/2 years old now and is very healthy.

My 2nd son everything was fine until I was 13 weeks along and I started spotting and it turned out it was just a slight tear on my cervix. After that I didn't have any problems at all until I turned 31 weeks. I started having contractions, dilating, and started thinning out. I started getting scared. They monitored me and they did give me the steroid shot just incase. They also gave me a med that I took everyday that was supposed to stop my contractions but it never did. I did end up going until I was 38 weeks and he was very healthy.

Everything will be fine. If you want to talk I am hear to lend an ear to listen.

Amber "

" My water broke with my son at 25 weeks and I went in to the hospital with contractions, got the steriod shots and lot and lots of magnesium sulfate to stop the labor. I managed to keep him in for 5 more days on hospital bedrest but then he had to be delivered by emergency c-section after I started showing signs of infection. I tell you this not to scare you but to let you know I can relate. Hopefully, your situation will not lead to an early birth but we are hear for you. My only advice is to reach out to friends and family that are supportive and ask them for any help/prayers/distraction you may need. "
