First Trimester Screens/Tests

Hi there! I'm wondering if any of you have had a Nuchal Translucency Test or First Trimester Screens? If so, what was the outcome and what are your thoughts about these tests? I'm 11 weeks and need to make some decisions soon...

Also, just to humor me (b/c I'm busting out of my pants), when did you start to wear maternity clothes?

Thanks a bunch!
Leanne

" We had the triple screen test and all around 15wks but no other tests. I wish you well God bless

oh, and with my 2nd pregnancy I began wearing maternity around 13wks due to the fact I was bloated on top of everything else. I think maternity wear begans when you feel like you should wear them. "

" I did the nuchal screen. We actually got a false positive because it said that there was an increased risk of Down syndrome, and I was worried until I got the results of my amnio that said that everything was fine. I would recommend it, but bear in mind that if things come back off , that does not mean that anything is wrong.

I started wearing some maternity clothes at 12 weeks because it was more comfortable and I was bloated, but I didn't really need them until around 19 weeks.

Good luck! "

" I agonized over whether or not to do this test. On one hand, I thought if there is a problem then I would like to know beforehand so I can prepare. On the other hand, there is a slight chance of a false positive so I didn't want to worry needlessly. In the end, I decided that I was going to keep the baby no matter what and that I would deal with whatever comes my way. Good luck:) "

" I did the CVS test at 11 weeks. It went very smoothly: no cramping or bleeding afterward.
It was not sressful at all, they call me the next day with the results, and now I can relax, I know for sure that our baby is healthy. My Dh and I made this choice o do this test from the beginning and I know it is not an easy one, but I do not regret it at all and will redo it for future pregnancy.
And, the bonus part is you got to know your baby's sex very early!
Regarding maternity clothes, I bought some pants at 15 weeks and started wearing them. I still wear some of my regular pants with the belly band and most of my regular tops still fit. "

" My husband and I have always decided not to do the tests because we would keep the baby no matter what and I did not want to spend my pregnancy worried about something being wrong. Though, there is the part of me that would want to know so we could be prepared, but we just decided not to do any of them.

As for the maternity clothes, with my first, not till about 16 weeks (I was actually modelling Bridal dresses up till that time)...with my second, probably about 14 weeks and then with this one (after 4 m/c's and a surgery) I am in them already at 10 weeks. :) Go with what is comfortable! "

" Good questions to get opinions on! This is my fourth pregnancy....2 little girls, 1 m/c, and now 30 weeks with our first son. I had the Quad Screen test with my little girls and everything came back just fine. With our son it came back saying that I show a posibility of this baby having Down Syndrome. I was immediatly sent to a specialist who offered me two things...a 3rd level ultrasound or amnio....I refused the amnio because of the risk of another m/c. The ulstrasound shows that he "should" be just fine, no DS. They also told me that there are such a HIGH false-positive rate with that part of the test...which also tests for Spina Bifida. I thought that was terrible because if my baby is supposed to be just fine then why the heck are they still putting people through the torture!? I would have opted to keep my baby either way, so the results of the test aren't a deal breaker for me! Also...my best friend's test came back showing positive for Spina Bifida...Emily is now 5 and in kindergarten and is a very healthy child. After I got the news about mine, I also heard more and more stories about the false-positive result....so is all that worth it to you?? That's what you have to ask yourself. No one warned me of any of this before so now I feel lucky to be able to make others aware of it all.

As far as maternity clothes.....I've always worn them as soon as my pants were unable to button. There's no sense in being uncomfortable....especially now that the baby's telling you they need more space ;0) "

" I didn't want to have it done either after baby #3 because of the false positives but I think that the AFP is done differently now to reduce the risk of false positive. The do the measurement of the babys neck by u/s and then draw blood at two different times to get the results. It is a little more accurate now and I have had it done with all 5 pregnancies and only one came back with a high chance for Down's and that was with baby #4. Faith ended us having Turners Syndrome so in my case it was accurate. I would have kept any child of mine regardless of any defects but it helped to know so we could be prepared. For this reason I recommend it. In the end it is all up to you! I would research it thoroughly and talk with your doc before making your decision. "
