I forget the technical name, but its caused by hormones. I already have mine on my belly, it's faint, but it is definitly there. I thought this was something that was supposed to happen later in pregnancy...when did everyone start to notice theirs? Also I am 12 weeks this Sunday.

I think everyone gets their "mommy" line at a different time...I didn't get mine until I was well into my 3rd trimester. My sister had hers by 3-4 months...

With my son I got the line from my belly button down in my third trimester. I barely noticed it because by that time I couldn't see anything under my big belly LOL. My husband pointed it out and said "uh is that going to go away?" LOL

The linea negra can come at anytime. It is basically from all of the hormones and women with darker color skin pigments get them more often than fair complected women. It will go away after birth. I haven't gotten one yet and I'm 28 weeks but I'm not worried because I am as white as snow so my pigmentation probably isn't there for it.

Ive got mine and Im 19 weeks.
In the book "What to expect when expecting" it says if your lighter complected you may not get one or it may be faint but if you are darker complected you will be able to see it more. I can see mine plain as day, and it also said there was a baby sex game you can play... If your line goes from the top of your belly (the bottom of your ribs) all the way to your pelvic bone you are having a boy. If your line goes from your navel to your pelvic bone you are having a girl. Who knows if its true but we will see next thursday b/c mine is from my ribs down and I find out what the sex of baby next Thursday!
