" Try not to be judgemental or angry at them for doing it. They are probably hurting inside and no one notices, so they make the hurt visible. Let them know you love them, and it frightens you to see them hurt themselves, but say it lovingly, not accusingly.

Let them know that they can tell you when they're hurting inside and you'll be there for them, so they don't feel they need to make it visible.

Hope that helps.
Hugs!
Wistala "

" Whatever you do don't act like nothing happened. Support and love are essential. This person is deeply hurt about some things. See if this person can open up to you honestly as to not be judged. windy "

" Are you asking this because YOU are going to harm yourself and you're wondering what your loved ones will think and feel? Or are you asking because you're concerned about someone you love?

Without knowing the perspective you're writing from, I'd say talking is the best thing you can do. If you're concerned about someone, tell them that you're there for them and won't pass any judgements regarding what they say.

If you're considering hurting yourself, don't. Go talk to your loved ones. If you can't talk then just ask someone to sit next to you on the couch and watch a movie. Be near someone. Being alone only increases ones desire and willingness to SI.

Wishing you peace and healing. "

" Okay, well then... when someone I know hurts themselves on purpose ... I'll be honest, I get angry with them. That's only because I am afraid of what they could do to themselves. On top of that I usually see the very best in people so when I see those I care about, potentially, flushing their bright futures down the drain it makes me sad. I usually want to shake them and scream, what's wrong with you? (I know, not an affective or supportive communication tool).

As for hurting yourself and wondering what your loved ones will think. That's an X-factor. It depends on your friends/family. I listed my response, above, but everyone is different and the people in your life may react differently. Bottom line, most folks who haven't experienced trauma in their lives don't understand the pain, sadness, fear and emptiness that fills our soul at times. They CAN'T understand what we feel, so their reactions to you hurting yourself might range from anger (how could you do that to yourself) to ignoring the situation completely (if they don't acknowledge it then it's not real).

I hope you won't hurt yourself. You've got a whole community here that care about you and want the best for you. Please know that.

Let us know how you're doing, okay? Take care. "
