I couldn't take birth control pills once I got diabeties. However, I have never heard of a blood pressure medication not getting you pregnant. I am going to assume you meant to write birth control again. I had a lot of help from taking birth control pills. It did help with my moods. However I had to try a variety of them to get the right one for me. Your daughter may need to do the same. And birth control pills are not 100% effective on trying not to get pregnant but they help. The only cure for not getting pregnant is not to have sex at all. But I am sure you know that. And if she ever wanted to get pregant like me, then she can get off of them. There are side effects, but they aren't that bad. Or atleast they weren't for me. I hope this helps you.

Birth control pills, patches and shots raise your blood pressure. That is the only reason I know of that is bad for PKD. High blood pressure is bad for PKD and birth control pills could raise you blood pressure. If it is already high then they will not let you take them at all. That is the only reason I know of that makes PKD people unable to take birthcontrol pills, patches or shots. I have an IUD wihout hormones. It is good for 8-10 years I believe. And its 99.99% effective. Then there are condoms. But people with high BP have limited options on birth control. Good luck.

OMG, I have NEVER heard of blood pressure pills as a safe way of birth control. i would check with a different doctor on that. I dont believe that at all. I know you are not supposed to get pregnant while on BP pills because its harmful to the fetus, but I have never heard of BP pills preventing pregnancy. Double check on that.

ok-i guess that came across wrong. i didnt mean bp meds to be used as birth control. i meant is it safe to take birth control with pkd and or bp meds?

yes as said bP is the problem with the pill and other hormonial birth control ,and by the way ,yes it is hard to have a pregnancy with high bP ,I have heard of people who have done it ,but they have needed extra care and it is a hard pregnancy so there may be some hope in the future for her ,it would also depend on just how high bP and if safe meds work for her .All very dificlut but still posable

no i have pkd and im on bc. they just put me a low hormone amount

ok-so your dr thinks its ok to take birth control while on bp meds? do you think all dr's agree with this or luck of the draw? are there any risks involved?

My daughter doctors told me that she could not have birth control pills with her PKD, I thought it had to do with the bleeding part of it, but not sure now.I'll ask him this week when I see him

I was on birth control pills and two types of bp meds. I do know that the after 15 yrs on the bc pills they stopped working - cause I got pregnant!!! This is now my second child after only wanting one (although I would never not want my second now) and my kidney function has taken a major blow. At the age of 32 my kidney function is 19% and falling very quickly (within the year I reckon I will be on dialysis). My husband has now had the 'snip' - dont want anymore accidents.
