Cysts expand the kidneys.
When they rupture, is that when hematuria happens or does the fluid go elsewhere?

Do you think it is surgically possible to enter the kidney and pop before they start?

" You can have your cyst drained, but they fill up with fluid within a matter of weeks or you get new cyst. I had a bunch of cyst drained. They take a needle and go into your kidney capsule and drain the big cyst. One of my cyst had a liter and half of fluid come out of just one cyst but it filled back up with blood and infection Then you gotta go on antibiotics So not really suggested unless your looking for a quick fix for a month or so to relieve the pain.. It's really frustrating trying to figure out what they can do for us to relieve the presseure and pain. My cyst bleed through all the time and its really painful. I don't know if that is any help to you but i was getting the big ones drained every 6 months and they stopped because of infections i was getting and also can hinder the function of your kidneys if continued to do alot .. Good Luck "

" Sorry for the late response!
I kind of knew that they can drain the cyst. Can they drain the cysts before they get so big and deform/decrease function of the kidney?

I'm going back to my biology textbook. It says, "Capsules called podocytes, function as a filter, being permeable to water and small solutes but not blood cells or large molecules. Filtration is NON SELECTIVE with regard to small molecules; any substance small enough to be forced through the capillary wall by blood pressure enters the renal tubule."

What I'm trying to get at is if they can drain the cyst small enough, it will pass through our urine. I beleive that we normally do pass them through our urine, but with PKD, it causes the cell to grow and not pass. Not being something like an enzyme or a hormone, which stops producing when the body has enough, the cells keep massing inside the kidney to form cysts. "
