OK...I haven't been diagnosed with anything...but...
What are the symptoms of PCOS? How do they diagnose it? CT scan? Ultrasound? Surgery? I have been having pelvic pain off and on for some time. A few years ago I was told to go to the ER because my lower right abdominal area hurt. They did a CT scan and it came out negative. I was also told it was not an ovarian cyst. I was in the hospital again a year ago (blood thinner complications), and an ultrasound of my lower abdomen was done which revealed some very small cysts, but I was told these are normal. Does this mean I don't have PCOS? Would they have been able to tell? Since I have been on COumadin (blood thinner). the pain seems to be worse. It's nothing completely unbearable, just a dull ache, sometimes on the right side, sometimes no specific side... I have been pregnant before. I was actually on depo provera when it happened....but my husband and I would like to have a child in the next few years, however if PCOS makes that harder, I guess I should find out now. I've read there's no real way to diagnose it unless you have extensive surgery... Posted on 05/16/08, 06:05 pm |

well do you have unexplained weight gain. increased hair growth in places you dont want it and losing it on your head? acne irregular or very light or heavy periods.. high or testosterone sencitive) insilin resistance, thyroid problems or high trigliceride levels? um the big type of cysts are not the same thing as pcos cysts. some women dont even have them that do have pcos, i dont. some women that have the small string of pearls dont have pcos and are perfectly healthy.
inkow when people post links most people just skim them or go crap its too long and dont even bother but serously both of these are definitly worth the time. the first one is in laymans terms, if you can handle a little bit of technical stuff the second one is great too. just remember EVERY study is different, no two docs have the same idea about what this disease really is, how to define it and even it it exists in some cases., but you know what it's different for everyone. its kinda like lupus in that regard. you just have to figure out what it is for you, if you do indeed have it. and get a good endocrinologist i hear they have a better clue than the ob/gyns here is a doc rateing site so you can find one in your area http://ratemds.com/social/ http://www.hormonehelpny.com/colum... http://www.endocrinetoday.com/view... and there are mor user support groups they have more links to other sites with even more information. http://dailystrength.org/groups/de... http://dailystrength.org/groups/su... http://dailystrength.org/groups/cy...

You can have cysts without having PCOS. but some symptoms and you can only have one and still have PCOS are weight gain, or in rare cases extreem loss. Facial hair, skin tags, deeper voice, male pattern baldness, moodiness, heavy or light to no period at all, hard getting pregnant, misscarraiges, insulin resistance. Ect. If you have it it means you will have a harder time concieving, have irregular periods that may need assistance with, mood swings, a lot of pain in the butt stuff. If you are concerned talkk with a doctor.
