I take Metformin NOT for fertility

Hello all, I just read several posts about the worrysome symptoms of PCOS and when I looked at people's profile, I realized those individuals were not on Metformin. Unfortunately, it is just about the most common treatment for insulin resustance underlying PCOS. It eats up the glucose and takes care of male hormone overage problem too. I convinved my regular dr to prescribe it to me after I had my daughter. Prior to that Metformin was prescribed by my reproductive endocrinologist. It hasn't been approved as a mainstream treatment of PCOS, but it works and I feel 1000 better.

" There is no real data to support any adverse effects on pregnancy. Due to the insufficeint human data. They say it can take 2 to 3 months for the metformin to really kick in , but you should start having regular periods right away. Generaly ppl with pcos are on met for life. If you are'nt your symptoms will start reoccuring. "

" No, I didn't mean it wasn't good for you, it is, I just said that because she was saying she wasn't using it for fertility sake. Sorry if that was confusing. "

" Unfortunatley I cannot tolerate Metformin. All it did was make me sick. My periods did not return and I did not lose any weight. I just felt awful. My RE told me that the results that have been found are very minimal. I wish it could have been my miracle drug! "

" There are other meds besides Metformin for PCOS. The point is that most of us would need something even beyong pregnancy just to feel and be okay. "
