Hi there, I'm new here and still recovering from pneumonia. Just wondered how long it took or is taking others to recover from it. I feel like its taking so long. I've been sick about 10 days with this and I'm not ready to go back to work yet. I got my pneumonia from a super bacteria going around at work. I don't know if anyone else got pneumonia from it though. I did go to the emergency room because the chest pain was so bad but I didn't require hospitalization. They didn't say I had walking pneumonia but maybe thats what it is. Although I'm sure not doing much walking around. I get winded just from taking a shower. On the days I can I mean. I've discovered with pneumonia, hygiene is optional. My case probably isn't that bad. What have your experiences been like?
Thanks, and I hope you are all feeling much better these days! Posted on 11/25/07, 11:11 pm |

I'm now into my seventh week and am just about getting there. These days I know my name and can walk more for more than a minute without holding on to something to keep me upright.

My pneumonia is going on 6 weeks. Not bad enough to be hospitalized, but No wonder I battle depression sometimes. I'm 51 and usually very healthy; what's hard is having to rest so much and be not be able to take care of things as before; I can relate to getting winded taking shower. I had that too. Now I can do a little more, maybe up and around for 2-3 hours, then I have to lie down and rest. The laying around helps me recover, but the length of down time gets very hard for a busy person like me and many of my friends don't understand. They say, "Your still not well yet?" I tell them I am getting better, it's just slow. I'm glad I am getting better, I just wish I knew how much longer it's going to take. I kind of feel like the little kids that keep asking their dad on a road trip, "Are we there yet?, Are we there yet? 'Are we there yet? I here some take 1 year to feel themselves. Yikes!! That's a long time. I hope it doesn't take that long for me. I guess we'll see. My daughter (23 yrs and a young mother) had it last week and because she went to the Dr. right away at my insistance, she improved right away and is well now. I on the other hand, waited too long and perhaps that is why it is taking longer. The meds are working and I know I need to be patient, drink lots of water, and rest. How long is it taking others to get well?

It took me about a month to fully recover and feel like myself again. It sounds like its a little different for everyone. I went back to work after 10 days but it was really a struggle at first. The resting can't be avoided with pneumonia I discovered. If I tried to push, I started to feel worse. So just hang in there and keep resting. You will feel better although it may seem like its taking too long.
