What causes agorophobia?

Does anyone know what causes agorophobia?. With some illness' we know their is a genetic link? I don't think that is the case with agorophobia? If its not genetic how do we fix it? I wasn't always agorophobic, although for me the illness has progressed and now I'm not functional. Any thoughts on this?

" I was once agoraphobic but with the right meds and reading up on panic/phobia I am not free of panic attacks. My only remaining fear is driving on highways and bridges. Try to get the book The Worry Trap by E. Lejeune and get yourself some relaxation tapes. The more you understand how your thoughts are creating your bodily sensations, the more you'll be able to handle them. Turn your negative thinking into positive thinking. It really works. Get the book. "

" I had a typo in my earlier reply. I am "now" free of panic attacks. Sounds funny and made me laugh. Good for the soul. "

" I am agoraphobic. It has been caused by the fear of panic attacks in social situations. But there are other reasons a person can become agoraphobic too. "
