Anyone afraid of people looking at them?

I am agoraphobic. I've been trying to figure out this year what makes me panic so much when I'm outside where I live. I've found, amongst other things, that I am afraid of people looking at me. I have no problem looking at them, smiling at them, sometimes even speaking. But if they repsond or look at me I start panicking and usually have to leave wherever I'm at. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have suggestions on how to deal with this?

" I understand how your feeling I cant stand for someone to look at me, I avoid people at all cost. I think im afaid that they wil judge me or be able to see through to the real me and wont be accepting. Even walking to the mailbox or driving is a huge challenge for me, because I start to panic. It used to not be so bad but it has gotten much worse recently. I am taking wellbutrin and ativan and it is sometimes helpful..you are not alone.... "

" Feel exactly the same as you, although I am not too great at socialising (social phobia). I have always been self concious of people looking at me ~ I think it is low self esteem ~ I dont like myself ~ god knows why, but I think that is why I dont like anyone looking at me ~ can you look at yourself in the mirror without feeling awkward? " I am agoraphobic too. I sometimes feel like people are looking at me but they aren't. For ex. on the bus..getting on the city bus..I think they are staring at me but really the seats are facing forward so where else are they going to look?Plus people are bored out of their gourd so of course they will look. I also think this when I am walking and people are staring. But, really no they are just walking and they need to look forward! "

" I have a great idea. Get a digital camera and start taking pictures of anything and everything that catches your eye. After a while it starts to feel like this protective buffer between you and the rest of the world. Not only that, it gets you so absorbed in looking to see what would make an interesting shot, that it becomes less and less significant whether people are looking at you or not. "
