" I DEALT WITH THIS FOR ALOT OF YEARS. I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW IT GOT BETTER. ITS STILL NOT 100% GONE, BUT I AM ABLE TO FUNCTION. AT ITS WORSE I WOULD OF NEVER DREAMED OF CHATTING ON LINE WITH PPL. I QUIT DRIVING FOR SOME TIME, EATING OUT, YEAH, IT WAS ALL BAD. WHAT I'M GETTING TO IS THAT IT MAY NOT ALL BE A PHOBIA. IT MAY BE ANXIETY ALSO. THE TWO CAN GO HAND IN HAND. GOOD LUCK TO YOU. THERE IS ALWAYS GOOD WITH THE BAD.. "

" Ive had social phobia since I was about 10 - ever since I moved from my old home town. I used to love being the center of attention, always wanted to be with others but that all changed here.

Ive only begun recovery last year. Im seeing a psychologist every week, ive got a job forcing me to interact with people and am trying to face my fears slowly - I need to talk to myself positively a LOT to try and get rid of the negative thoughts. Its a long process but you can beat it! "

" Hey I could totally understand you, I have had severe social anxiety since as far back as I could remember. When I was a little kid, other kids probably thought I was mute.

Everyone always tells me to face my fears, but that hardly seems to work or remove the actual problem.

I'm looking for someone to chat with with the same problem. If anyone want's to chat

" I'm right their with you all. I have to force myself to go out. I actually went fishing this week with hubby and talked to someone on the pier about fishing. I've been trying to make myself go out more, even if its just to the store. I just make sure hubby is with me so if I go into a panick/anxiety attack, I can get back to our truck without anyone knowing. . "

" I've had problems for years being around people. I just basically don't trust anyone and feel like they are going to do something to me. I try to be nice, although I know I probably appear snobby from my inability to socialize. Their are times when I just don't leave the house for days. When someone calls me to go out, I make up some excuse why I can't go. I went to church on Sunday for the first time in about a year. afterwards hubby took me out for lunch. I made myself go because I knew I was isolating myself . Funny thing, I was a nervous wreck the entire time I was their and just wanted to leave. It will be awhile before I go again because I can't handle all of the emotional issues with being in a group and trying to hide my illness. "

" i have social anxiety disorder or a fear of people and social situations. just developed within the last three years. i cant be in social situations unless i absolutely have to and i cant even make telephone calls. i am deathly afraid of making a mistake in public. i take xanax but that only helps somewhat and then the withdrawl is really awful. i drink alcohol at social functions just to get through them my family cant understand why i act like this since i was so outgoing before. what could have possibly happenned to me? im at the end of my rope. " You're not alone with this. I've been afraid of people all my life. I have the shaking, the panic and the severe anxiety. At least you're young and you have a child. Just remember your son and how much you love him and that he needs you to be there for him. "
