Can I put in my 2 cents worth. I agree that most people don't know what to expect when you say you have pd. They don't see too much wrong when they look at you. Then when you tell them of some famous people who have it, you can almost see them step back like they are afraid it is catching. So I do it on purpose when I wamt to make a point. Such as"Oh by the way Mohammed Ali has pd and also M J FOx. I just can't wait to move like they do." Mean I know, but sometimes you need to see their confused faces. it helps if you know what I mean.

Sass, I like your attitude.
WE MUST Have a factory here in Wis THAT TURNS OUT Pd PATIENTS AT A WHIRLWIND RATE. I am amazed at the number of friends and aquaintances who have a wife, husband, aunt, uncle (etc) who has/had PD. And they were superpeople. Still cooking meals every day in spite of tremors (which thankfully I don't have) and being 82!! or baking Christmas coookiesat 93?!? Is this just one upmanship pr discomfort that I present to them? Poolsmom

That comment is a very insensitive one. However, I understand the feeling behind it. You see, I have symptoms, but am not yet diagnosed. My symptoms are very very similar to both, ALS and Parkinson. How I hope what I have is Parkinson rather than ALS. Not that Parkinson is easy, desirable or any picnic - I'm sure it can be awful. But I want to live. And an ALS diagnosis is a death sentence.
Did the person who made the offensive statement have ALS or some other terminal condition? If so, then the statement is forgivable.

That is truly an insensitive comment about PD. What you need to know is some background info on the person who made the statement: Does that person or someone he loves have an incurable disease which is essentially a death sentence - like ALS? Has someone he loved died from an incurable illness? If so, I think the statement is forgivable.

That is exactly what my diagnosing neurologist told me - and nothing more. I had to go home and find information on the internet.

Hi all, I've had bad tremours lately and I've been getting some withering looks as if I'm a alcoholic or a druggy of some sort...I feel like saying something but in today's social climate in the UK lately, that would be a very unwise thing to do. I feel like saying I'm not an alco or a druggy so go somewhere!! ;-))
