Hi, I have PD and am reaching the point where I need to decide whether or not to make the rest of the world outside the family circle know that I have this thing.

My biggest fear is how it may affect my employment prospects in the short, medium though I suspect there will not be a long term.

I do not have the tremor, for which I am thankful, so it is easier to disguise the symptoms or come up with plausible excuses...but it is getting harder week by week.

Have any of you had to make the same call and if you have how did you handle it?

Regards

" Hi Mikey, I fully understand your dialema and you are without tremour which is usually in most cases like my own the first thing to show. When I was first diagnosed the company I worked for seemed to be doing fine and was told my job was safe...then we hit a real bad time orders dried up and the company went into liquidation and I was 1 of 4 who were made fedundant, which a hard enough thing to cope with even when your health's good.
I found it hell virtually impossible to get work, I joined a "Job Club" but to no avail.
I know I can't prove anything now because time has marched on, but I often think back wondering whether my PD though quite mild at the time was a factor in me being made redundant.
Your lack of tremour may help disguise your PD for quite a while yet and I sincerely hope that it does but I think honesty can count a lot in your favour if you start by just telling those who really have to know.
If you are upfront with employers from the start I think you will be better off my friend and I wish you all the luck in the world.
Yours Truly Dirk ;-))
Good luck. "

" I have decided to tell a very limited need to know few, my boss, and my family.. why should l tell everyone . I dont want anyone to feel sorry for me,

I would choose to not tell a future employer, as of course it would influence their decision, but a current employer well maybe, if it is affecting your job "
