Pre-injury friends - post injury

I had an experience this morning and posted it to my journal. Several people have commented and several others have sent hugs or PMs. It has me wondering: How many of you lost friends after an injury or illness?

How did you overcome the awkwardness?

Should I try to re-establish contact with them or just let them go?

Advice. please

" One of my best friends at home was paralyzed in an accident and now he's just him in a chair. We just do things a little different, but he still himself. Same personality. Guess I still like him for who he is. Haven't given up on him. He hasn't given up on me and my faults so it works. In the end he's going to have to get used to me and my brain tumor so we're even. Ha ha ha. The good friends will stick around, the real ones will show through. We go through periods where we do our own thing, then we get back together again and it's like old home week. I doubt our friendship will ever die. Good friendships never do. "

" Shanna, a few have made an effort, but I'm bad juju to them. I'm a non-walking reminder of what could happen to them. I'm going to stay in touch and see what time does. "
