My 10 yr old is BP/OCD/ADHD and has had a very rough year.He has alot of anxiety and happens to have extreme testing anxiety. He is academically fine he ranks in the top few kids in his class in most areas but still has extreme anxiety. He can deal with like the weekly spelling tests it is the big ones like the standardized ones the harp and preach on so much.He freaks out, falls apart.Doesn't sleep or eat .It is terrible.
SO since he has already had a bad yr including a recent hospitalization that he hasn't really bounced back from and missed alot of school mostly anxiety induced lately. The sch says we will exempt him from the end of grade test.GREAT.The admin seems to think this is best, his teacher seems to think this is best,we do , his Dr seems to go along. So the tests are Monday and we have heard nothing. The school tells us one thing the sch board and state sch board tells us another.Basically due to "no child left behind" EVERY child unless profoundly ill like in a coma HAVE to take this test it is state mandated.Had we not been told we DID NOT need an IEP/504 he could have at least tested in a room with a teacher alone and not under such stressful circumstances. Also add that IF he causes any type of disruption AT ALL the WHOLE class must be retested. So now he is also afraid he will get in there and lose it in front of his friends and make them have to re test. He is now having daily panic attacks, not eating, sleeping, having behavior issues etc.He spent 40 min on the floor of the sch the other day in the fetal position unable to breathe and panicking. Sorry for the book....Does anyone have ANY suggestions or any insight into this .I do not have test anxiety but I want to know what I can do for him.It is going to be a LONG weekend and week for us. Hi, I have a best friend with a son who is actually my god son. He went thru the same thing in the 5th grade he was about 10 to. If im not mistaking he started having them from watching scary movies. It escalated from there he is 13 now and doing just fine. She took him to alot of therapy. Also minimized his watching t.v. time. Also he may surffer from things that are not reality and it scares him and effect his thinking. Try to show him the things that are real and reality and let him know he's o.k.

Totally agree on the letting him know he will b okay. That even if he did fail the test, you will still love and be there for him. I'm sure this is old news to you. I can't imagine being 10 yrs old and having to deal with PA's or anxiety.
While writing the test, see if its kosher with the rules if he can listen to music? Something Calming. Hope this helps, keep us posted.

Thanks so much for your replies.:)
His Dr wrote down recommendations for the school for him to test and b/c they were not turned in by a certain date a while back they would not accomodate us.After much discussion the principal said she could not test a child that was not there. That it would be very "convienant" for him to be sick during the testing and retesting period .She assured me he was going to pass regardless. So I guess problem solved. For the time being anyways.LOL We have had a really rough week. Now we deal with med changes.Yay.:P
