Low Self-Esteem & Panic

I have been going to therapy for my anxiety disorder and the main thing we keep talking about is my self-esteem. It was hard to shed light on the negative self-talk I give myself when I fail or make a mistake, especially because I am a very forgiving person. It was hard to realize that I could forgive my best friend for stealing money from me and not admitting it, but could not fogive myself if I failed a test or showed up to work late. Does anyone else have a feeling that low self-esteem may be the cause of their anxiety or panic? Thank you for your comments in advance.

" I dont think imoroving self esteem is all that important, it wont stop panic attacks or have much effect on anxiety, the therapist perhaps doesnt know much about treating anxiety

some sufferers are very arrogant and this makes them refuse to accept any advice as they think it insulting "

" Thanks,

With your experience, do you think that finding out what caused your anxiety is important in controlling it? "

" I think my panic attacks and anxiety is caused by low self-esteem.I have had so many things happen to me it has effected my self-esteem. I have found talking about these things have helped but I try not to work out what is causing the anxiety/panic attack if it is too difficult.I try and let it pass.Sometimes it works and sometimes it dosen't. " i only have panic attacks when im stressed. when driving, if something happens that i dont have control over, my first thought is to make sure im not breaking any laws and then pull over or leave the area. at work if equipment doesnt work but my time keeps diminishing, i start panicking.

my anxiety is because i get nervous. my most recent was when i found an area of outdated foods at work that someone merged without checking the dates. while discussing i stopped breathing regularly and became short of breath. seems ridiculous but it happens to me a lot. its just such a hassle for me. thats why i like to take things slow.

my self-esteem is probably part of it, but even with a high self-esteem i believe i would still have my problems. "

" I feel that panic attacks can be caused by many different factors. For you, it may be low self-esteem. For someone else, it could be a traumatic experience. Try working on your self-esteem and it might lessen or stop yours. Good luck~Hugs "
