Pancrease Stent

I am having an EUS this Month, which is an ultra sound down the throat to the Pancrease, and if needed they sais they will put a stent in to help clear the duct. Has anyone experienced this.
Also I'm taking Hydrocodone for pain BUT it makes me feel tereible, and very nasuseated. I go to the VA here in Cincinnati for treatment and they are the quickest in responding to complaints. Sould I ask for something else and if so what would you suggest.
Thanks,
-Dave

" I have not had a stent out in yet but it is an option they are looking at. As far as meds go I have tried the dilaudid and the 2 mg dose seems to work well. I would say keep trying different meds until you find the right one. I have used liquid oxycodone with great success in reduction of nausea but it really depends on the person. Best of luck to you! "

" I had 2 ERCP's in an 8-month period of time. The first time, they put a stent in my biliary duct because I had so much pain in my right upper quadrant. The second one, they put a stent in the pancreatic sphincter. Both times, they measured the pressure in my pancreas and determined that the pressure was too high, and they had to cut an opening to help lower the pressure.

The first one was in December 2005, and the second one was in July 2006. I am now having the pain again, but have been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis and chronic hepatitis. I was told that if my pancreas closed off again, I would need conventional surgery to fix the problem.

As far as pain meds go, I would suggest oxycodone. It may make you nauseated, but they can give you phenergan, and that way the pain meds can work without you feeling nauseated.

If you need more info, or just need to talk, send me a message and I will respond as quickly as I can. Good luck. "

" When I had my EUS they had trouble reaching where I had a blockage to put in a stent. They finally was able to put the stent in but the pain was still really bad. After going to the third hospital, they did more testing with CT Scans and ERCPT where they did do a fine needle aspiration, which came back a a postive for pancreaic cancer, they did a Whipple procedure on me and then came back and said I had the chronic pancreatitis. From what I understand the two conditions seem to be very much alike. I am on Hydrocodone for pain too and it does make me feel sick to my stomach, that is why I try not to take the medicine. I will keep you in my prayers. "

" Hello. I have had a few stents in my day. The first one moved on me and caused me a great deal of pain. The second one was put in at a different hospital and it did much better. After it was installed i was virtually pain free and was able to eat again, not to mention the nausea went away. I had a double stricture at the head of my pancreas. They thought i had cancer at first but it ended up being a really rare disorder that completely destroyed over half my pancreas. Stents work but they are a temporary fix only. They need to find out why you have the stricture.there to begin with. The ERCP is a walk through the park. I had many and have had no problems with them. They will be able to see whats going on in there while they put the stent in and take tissue samples for analysis. Is your liver doing OK? Have you been turning yellow in the eyes and skin? Have you been itching? How about throwing up? Is it green bile? Do you have gual bladder pains? these are all signs of strictures in the bile duct. I hope thing go well for you. Good luck! Send me a message if you have any more questions. I'm a veritable expert on this stuff now. There is nothing i haven't gone through to correct the issue i have so i am pretty well versed on on all the meds and procedures now. "

" I have had three endoscopic ultrasounds, and I have had four pancreatic stents placed and changed as necessary. I had a stricture or narrowing of my pancreatic duct. I was scared before my first ultrasound, but they put you to sleep and you don't remember anything about the procedure.

If I were you, I would ask for another pain medication and tell the doctor the symptoms you are experiencing.

Have you tried any other doctors regarding your problem?

Hope this helps. SherriW "
