I got my lab results back from the doctor yesterday. I made him test my pancreatic enzymes. Amylase and Lipase were both normal. A CT I had in June imaged the pancreas as normal in appearance, no enlargement or scarring or inflamation/lesions, etc... The doctor told me as far as he's concerned I do not have chronic pancreatitis. He doesn't feel it necessary to do an ERCP at this time. I just want them to find out was IS causing my abdominal and back pain and the diarrhea and fix it so I can function like a human being again.
My liver enzymes have fallen to within 20 points of being in the normal range now and the rest of my liver function tests were normal, so that is really good news. Diet, weight loss and controlling my blood sugars seems to have helped a lot. One of my numbers fell over 75 points in three months. I was actually very surprised. I'm hoping next time they'll all be in the normal range and that my fatty liver disease will be halted, or at least slowed in progression, before it can become full blown cirrhosis. I know it's something I'll have to watch the rest of my life. Small price to pay for feeling better I guess, huh? Although sometimes I do wish I could eat more of the things I like. I've lost 46 pounds since June, so that is a very nice side effect. I'm back into normal sized clothes again for the first time in over 5 years. That feels good. I just with the pain and bowel problems would stop, too. God bess everyone and I hope you are all having a good day and feeling well this morning. Posted on 11/30/07, 08:11 am |

In August 2005 I had abdominal pain that could not be explained. It was in the right upper quadrant. None of the tests that they did showed anything; however, I was sent to Indianapolis for an ERCP. The ERCP showed that the pressure inside the pancreas was too high, and that I had pancreatic sphyncter disfunction, along with a blocked bile duct. The doctor made a cut in the pancreas, and put a stent in the bile duct. The relief of the pain was immediate.
If the problem is within the pancreas, no test other than the ERCP will show it. I hope this information will help, and that you feel better soon.

I'm so happy for you and impressed with you!!!!
Tonight is a toughy for me. Easter with all the candy, tomorrow, but also, my grandson's birthday, too. So the house is filled with the smell of cake, cookies, icing. None for me. I'm very grateful to be alive and able to complain about it, but it doesn't make it any easier!! I go next Friday, (the 28th) to get the latest lab, and CT results. I'm not worried though, I feel great. I've lost one size (closer to 2) In just 6 lbs, I'll be back to my svelte 200 lbs! Time to start shopping for that summer bikini! lol! I have some of the same issues you have: diabetes, fatty liver disease. Staying on an alomst fat-free diet is hard, sometimes, but like you, I find the weight loss and the not hurting, to be worth the loss of all that yummy unhealthy food. Continued good health to you!!!
